Directors Report - May 2022-----Façade Grant applications have been reviewed by our Design committee and the results andrecommendations will be presented to our Board for a decision on June 2, 2022.This last month we executed Buff Up Boyne. Not the greatest turnouts this year as comparedwith other years. We did receive a 250 donation from DTE Energy for the event that helped usbuy all the goodies from our local businesses.Completed the downtown maps with the great help of Jennifer Crites our Admin asst. and KeciaFreed. As of 5/27 the proofs are out to Mitchell Graphics.A big word of thanks to both Jen and Ingrid for working hard on the new processes we areworking on in the office for Stroll the Streets. For those that did not know Ingrid Day is ourvolunteer event coordinator for Stroll the Streets.Stroll the Streets sponsorships are all in. We have received over 15,000 in STS sponsordonations. Currently (5/27) we are all booked for the season and working on a musiciancalendar to share with the public.Hiring for a market assistant is proving tricky. Really only one applicant at this time. Iinterviewed this candidate and will wait till next week when City office staff is back to proceedwith the hiring process.Mushroom Fest was a big hit this year as well as the kick-off to the BCFM 2022 season. One ofthe largest crowds seen that weekend in some time if ever.Regular social media posts on our Facebook and Instagram pages continue. Positive messagingwill continue to be the focus and also all businesses in the DDA.The optimization grant participants will be joining us today to share the impact of theirexperience with the grant.Boyne Community Theater committee has reviewed the process and best next steps. To:Main Street BoardFrom:Jordan PeckDate:May 27, 2022Subject:June Agenda Items OverviewOverview:Two items for the June 2nd Main Street Board Meeting will require further information: HolidayLight Contracts and Facade Grants.Holiday Light Express - Christmas Light Contract/Quote:As many of you know the last provider of our ornaments is no longer servicing this area. As aresult we have reached out to Holiday Express who previously only handled our tree lights. Thetwo quotes in this packet cover the ornaments and the other is for the tree lights. Our budget forFYE 2022-23 included an amount of up to 40,000 for Holiday decor. This last year we heardcomments regarding the need to light up more trees along the main downtown thoroughfares. The amounts reflected will be higher than years to come. The cost for a new tree (new lights, installation) is 1,650 and we are proposing to add a total of 12 different trees at locations wherewe currently have none. The cost after the initial set-up/install will be 2,500 to repair andmaintain the display. The final total for the snowflakes may fluctuate some because we won’t know how manydecorations are repairable until they are looked over by a service professional. I have also spokenwith our DPW and identified some pieces that will need to be assessed in their storage building. This could be done by Holiday Light Express prior to the season. We could end up with a few morethan expected. This service will include as described in the quote, “refurbish existing snowflakes, weld broken sections, new paint, new LED bulbs, new wire.” Ongoing cost for the removal, storage, and installation of the decor will be 8,750.RECOMMENDATION:

Holiday Light Express Contract:A. Approve the quote from Holiday Light Express for holiday decor service within the DDA.B. Other options as determined by the MS board.Facade Grant Awards:This year the design committee received several requests for facade grants. After review thedesign committee identified three applicants as possible recipients. Kirkby development, SelfIndulgence Salon, and Ralph Gillette CPA. It was determined to award Kirkby 15,000; SelfIndulgence 3,000; and Ralph Gillette CPA 2,000. Ralph Gillette CPA decided to re-visit his designand plans to apply next year. Our design committee determined that if the 2,000 was notaccepted, that the amount to Kirkby Development would be increased to 17,000.Full applications will be present at the board meeting for further review if needed. These are theapplications we reviewed briefly at our last board meeting. If further information is neededregarding one or more of the proposals please let me know before our meeting Thursday, June2nd.Question came up regarding a cap/limit for each applicant. In review of the historical informationon the facade grant there is no evidence in both our minutes and design guidelines. There was aperiod of time when the total facade grant amount available was 10,000. It was increased to 15,000 and then later to 20,000.RECOMMENDATION:Facade Grant Awards:A. Approve the design committee recommendation to award 17,000 in grant money toKirkby Development and 3,000 to Self-Indulgence Salon.B. Other options as determined by the MS board.
