Massive action plan: Create a list of items that need to be done to achieveyour goal and resources that can be used to help you get there. For example for an ironman, learning how to swim, purchasing a wetsuit, running a marathon, are all action items that will help get you there. Resources for this goal would be like finding a coach or reading books on ironman. Then create a yearly target, and a target for the next 90 days.WEEKLY STRATEGY: 1. Capture all your to-do items and put it on paper. 2. Create a RPM plan a) R: Results: Start with writing clear results that you want to achieve that week (ie finish research proposal). This result should be in-keeping with your 90 day target. b) P: Purpose: Document what is the reason you want to achieve this (ie to contribute tohuman knowledge). Give yourself a nickname for why you want this (ie the scholar!). c) M: Massive action plan: break down your big project into action tasks (ie write the intro, write the methods, write the discussion). Figure out how long each of these actions will take. Figure out what can be leveraged (ie others can help with). 3. Schedule it: On aweekly basis create RPM blocks for yourself (ie what days you will work on fitness and how many hours, or studying or family). Also put in any meetings that can't be changed into your schedule. Then on a daily basis schedule your hours ie from 9-10am will complete a half ironman workout (fitness block), then from 11-12 hangout (relationshipsblock), then from 12-2 study textbook (surgery block). Better to schedule your hours on a daily basis as things can change easily. Try and anticipate problems before they come up (ie if you are on call for 24h thursday, you will likely be very tired and unable to work on friday). 4. Commit to your plan. 5. Measure the outcomes, ie cross off list whenyou're done. Celebrate and write down magic moments of the week. If you weren't able to complete some RPM blocks this week (ie this week didn't exercise much) then put it more into priority next week. ii) Success leaves clues. If you want to achieve a result faster, follow those who have already gotten there. iii) Need to work on the areas that areimportant but not yet urgent. We often work on things that seem urgent but are ultimately not important (ie responding to emails) as this makes us feel important. We also often put off important things until they become urgent (ie studying for a test). iv) to achieve a big project break it down into smaller objectives, then figure out what are "mustachieve." For example, to get into Harvard then you can do many extracurriculars, pass the sat, get references from the president, get a 4.0.
