HYPERACTIVITY CIRCULATING FILECirculating Files are collections of verbatim quotes of what Edgar Cayce said during his readingson a given subject or, in some cases everything. We have medical circulating files which focus onthe over 9,000 health-related readings with subjects from Acidity-Alkalinity to Weight Loss. Wealso have non-medical circulating files on a broad range of topics, for example Egypt: Sphinx,Pyramids, and Hall of Records, Fear and Its Far-Reaching Effects, Advice to Parents, Serving inAccord with Ideals, and Business Advice. Each circulating file is simply a collection of reading quotes or full readings given for differentindividuals on a similar subject or disease. The A.R.E. cannot and does not suggest treatmentsfor physical ailments nor make claims about the effectiveness of the therapies. We encourageanyone working with the health readings to do so under a doctor's care and advice. The circulating files support the research aspect of the Cayce work. We appreciate any feedbackinforming us of progress made in improving one‘s life or achieving good health by applyingsuggestions given in the readings. HYPERACTIVITY CIRCULATING FILEIntroduction to the Cayce Readings onHealth and HealingNo matter what illness or ailment concerns us, certain basic principles abouthealth and healing are relevant. These are the premises upon which all of the Caycehealth information rests. For those who would like to make a more careful study ofthese basic principles, the recommended Circulating File is entitled Principles ofHealing. Here, in essence, are the ideas found in that file. They may prove to be veryuseful to your study of the specific ailment that requires healing for you.The first fundamental idea about healing requires that we maintain a creativebalance between two principles:1. All healing comes from the infinite - that is, from attunement and harmonywith our spiritual source. The infinite is just as accessible and available in thevisible, physical world as it is in the invisible realm.2. At the same time, each person must take responsibility for his or her ownhealing process. No one can simply sit back and wait passively for healing tooccur. This second principle - the need for self-responsibility - can take many forms. For example, healing requires attunement, and no one knows better than ourselvesexactly what has gotten us out of attunement. Often, if we look closely at our lives,we can see (without needing a gifted medical clairvoyant such as Edgar Cayce)what's causing our illness. To illustrate self-responsibility further, the human body has a marvelous, innate drive to heal itself, but we've got to do our part to help. A broken bone willnaturally try to mend; however, the fracture needs to be set properly for the healingto be complete and effective. Cayce stresses the healing ability of the body:Remember, the body does gradually renew itself constantly. Do not look uponthe conditions which have existed as not being able to be eradicated from thesystem. . . Hold to that KNOWLEDGE - and don't think of it as just theory that the body CAN, the body DOES renew itself!1548-3Another important principle relates to energy medicine, a new field for whichEdgar Cayce was a pioneer. His readings consistently speak of the roles played byvibrations or vibratory forces - right down to the level of individual atoms. Accordingto Cayce, there is a type of consciousness that exists in each atom. Although mostof the passages about the atomic physics of healing seem rather esoteric, it might beeasier to follow the analogy of the attunement of a stringed musical instrument. Aviolin or piano that is out of tune makes sour, discordant music - symbolic of diseaseor illness. Just as a skilled musician can bring the instrument back into attunement,we experience healing when our vibrations - right down to the atomic level - areadjusted in a correct manner. In essence, all healing is bringing the vibrations intoharmony from within.Balance among body, mind, and spirit is another key to Cayce's philosophy ofhealing. For healing to be complete and lasting, we must recognize and meet theneeds of each of these three levels. Virtually no illness or disease can be treatedsuccessfully at only one of these three levels.Edgar Cayce Readings copyright 1971, 1993-2010 by the Edgar Cayce Foundation5

HYPERACTIVITY CIRCULATING FILEWhat's more, Cayce affirms that the human body will naturally stay healthy and even rejuvenate itself - if a kind of internal balance can be maintained. ―Dis-ease‖starts when one part of the body draws energy from another part. One portion of anorganism may become overcharged with the creative life force, while another portionbecomes undernourished. The result is a gradual disintegration of the body and theonset of illness. The opposite of this sort of disintegration is rejuvenation. The readings assertthat we are continuously rebuilding our bodies. Within any seven-year period, eachcell is replaced. If we'll allow it, our bodies will transform any problem and resuscitateany condition. But our ingrained habits usually block this healing potential - thehabits of action and, even more potent, the habits of mind. What role do drugs and medicine play in the healing process? Cayce'sphilosophy clearly sees a place for them, but warns of misunderstanding how theywork and of expecting more of them than is possible. Any healing method attemptsto create an experience of oneness, in hopes of then stimulating a similar responsein the body. For some people in some situations, a drug may be the best way toaccomplish this - just as in other cases surgery may be the best way to stimulatehealing. Medicines can be a practical application of the one life force. Occasionallythey must be very potent in their reactions in order to get the patient through anacute illness. But Cayce from time to time encouraged people to consider the herbalformulas he recommended to be tonics and stimulants, rather than medicines. The dangerous side of medicines is their potential to diminish the body's ownhealing work. This is what Cayce alluded to when he warned about ―palliatives‖ thatdeceive the soul with half-truths and temporary relief. It's also what he meant whenhe warned that we shouldn't come to rely on any condition outside of ourselves thatcould be assimilated by the body inwardly. All of this is to say, take the medicationsprescribed by the physician you trust. Keep in mind this thought: what thosechemicals can do is temporarily - and somewhat artificially - give your body anexperience of greater oneness.Healing that really takes hold and lasts must come from changing one's innerconsciousness and vibration. That happens most effectively from consistent andpersistent human effort (that is, engaging one's desires, purposes, and will) something that pills all too easily allow us to skip. These have been long-standing. Do not take the treatments just a few days,or even a few weeks, and expect to be well - and then revert to oldconditions. But be consistent and persistent! Have periods when these will betaken (that is, ALL of those things indicated) for two, three to four weeks. Then rest by leaving them off a week. And then be just as patient and just aspersistent as though you were beginning all over again.976-1Cayce's healing philosophy includes other insights that can help us avoidmisunderstanding. For example, one principle states that the best treatmentprocedures sometimes cause a temporary worsening of conditions. If we didn'trecognize this possibility, we might give up just before the benefits begin to appear.A closely related principle states that when a body is re-establishing its attunement,it tends to be more sensitive. Again, if we misunderstand that heightened sensitivity,we might not see the good that is slowly being effected.Edgar Cayce Readings copyright 1971, 1993-2010 by the Edgar Cayce Foundation6

HYPERACTIVITY CIRCULATING FILEThe mind is a focus of other healing principles. The unconscious mind plays arole in many illnesses and diseases. One example of this is the karmic factor inhealth problems. Memories from previous incarnations, stored in the soul mind, cantrigger problems in the body. Of course, we shouldn't go so far as to suppose thatevery health challenge has past-life roots; nevertheless, the perspective ofreincarnation can help us understand what we could possibly be dealing with as weseek healing. The familiar Cayce axiom, ―Mind is the builder,‖ leads us to wonder exactlywhich attitudes and emotions best foster healing. The readings emphasize several: Self-acceptance. As we rid ourselves of self-condemnation, we make roomfor healing forces to enter. Optimism and hope. We're encouraged to expect healing. Patience. It's much easier and quicker to destroy health than it is to rebuild it.We need to be willing to patiently invest whatever time is required.Alongside these specific attitudes and emotions, we're invited to use thecreative potential of visualization to stimulate our own healing. The mind's imagemaking capacity can be directed in such a way that we ―see‖ the healingtransformation taking place. This is not something that's accomplished in a singlevisualization session. Like all the Cayce health-promoting approaches, it requirespersistence and works best in conjunction with other healing methods.Perhaps the most important principle of the mind's relationship to healingconcerns purposefulness. A person can experience temporarily an outer healing that is, in the physical body only - yet still be spiritually sick. What cures the soul? Acommitment to a purposeful life. Not just any purpose, but instead one that reflectscare for other people. On occasion a reading from Cayce would pose this question to the personwho was ill: What would you do with your life if you were healed? What would the body be healed for? That it might gratify its own physicalappetites? That it might add to its own selfishness? Then (if so) it had betterremain as it is. . . But first the change of heart, the change of mind, thechange of purpose, the change of intent.3124-2The position of Cayce's psychic source was simply this: Why correct thephysical condition unless there's also going to be an inner correction? People whoare looking for both inner and outer healing are the best candidates for restoredhealth and vitality. In Cayce's philosophy, healing should equip us to be more usefulto others. With this ideal of service in mind, we might also wonder just how we can bechannels of healing to others. What principles govern our efforts to be healers tothose for whom we have concern? One principle is based on the spiritualconnections that exist between all people. It states that as we bring the experienceof oneness into our own consciousness, it can profoundly help someone elseexperience oneness, attunement, and healing. Cayce's way of putting it was,―.raising the Christ Consciousness in self to such an extent as it may flow out of selfto him thou would direct it to.‖ (281-7)For this to be most effective, the recipient must desire such help and haverequested healing prayer. Of course, we can always pray for someone, even if thatEdgar Cayce Readings copyright 1971, 1993-2010 by the Edgar Cayce Foundation7

HYPERACTIVITY CIRCULATING FILEindividual hasn't asked us. But it's important that we not assume we know what'sneeded in any person's life. For one who hasn't specifically asked for prayer, we cansimply offer prayers of protection and blessing, rather than try to direct healingenergies to that person or for a specific condition. It is also important to remember that each reading was given for an individual. It must be emphasized that no suggested treatments for any particular ailmentsshould be ―lifted‖ from any individual reading and tried by another individual exceptunder the supervision of and with the cooperation of a physician or licensed healthcare professional. However, there were many suggestions that were given over andover, and these can be studied to find how they apply to ourselves. These healingprinciples can be grouped in four categories that referred to as CARE.Circulation – moving the blood around the body through therapies such asmassage or spinal manipulationAssimilation – encouraging the body to pull the proper nutrients from the food byeating the proper foods and in the proper combinationsRelaxation – taking time to rest and let the body recuperate and counterbalance thedaily activitiesElimination – removing the waste products from the body through therapies such assweats, colonics, and fume bathsFor more information about CARE and recommendations on the lifestyledescribed in the readings, please see Dr. Harold J. Reilly‘s Handbook for Health. There are also many verbatim collections of the readings in other Circulating Files,Research Bulletins, and Treatment Plans for individual diseases which may bepurchased through Customer Service at 800-333-4499.The A.R.E. is interested in having all the material in the health readingsreviewed by physicians and health care professionals who also provide summariesof their findings in the hope that the information may prove beneficial to others. When time and finances permit it is planned to have all the information in the healthreadings read by one or more physicians and the subject matter summarized. Please send any feedback toLibrary: Circulating File DeskA.R.E.215 67th StVirginia Beach VA 23451 Or e-mail: CirculatingFiles@edgarcayce.orgTo obtain health items mentioned in the readings, contact our officialworldwide distributor, Baar Products at 800-269-2502 or Baar.com.We do not advocate a do-it-yourself process. Please seek out the advice of ahealth professional before implementing any recommendation. In summary, the Cayce readings remind us that our natural state iswholeness and health. An innate wisdom within ourselves knows what's needed forhealing. We should expect to get well, and we should be willing to do our part tomake it possible. ―Those that expect little of the Lord receive little; those that expectmuch receive much - if they live it!‖ 1424-1Blessings,A.R.E. HYPERACTIVITY CIRCULATING FILEHyperactivityby William McGarey, M. D.The A.R.E. Journal, March, 1973After a period of therapy, a little boy who could not be kept out of trouble in theexamining room on his first visit lost his hyperactivity and became a strong proponent forcastor oil packs. His father used them on his tummy while he watched television. Foralmost a year, he would not do without a pack for a single day, and the changes inactivity were remarkable enough that he was presented to a symposium of doctors as acase in point. This little boy was first seen at six years of age, in February, 1967, because of beingso very thin, with a poor appetite, severe abdominal pains and severe emotional upsetsand temper tantrums. He had a history of severe upper respiratory infections until hewas two years old and had had many antibiotic shots. At the time of examination, hewas unable to sit still at any time and was continually active. After two months on the castor oil packs, he was sitting quietly and turning the pagesof a book in the consultation room. The mother reported that the abdominal pains weremuch better. He was eating well and sleeping well and was more normal in every wayalthough he was still having temper tantrums. He looked forward to taking the packsbecause they seemed to relax him.He was seen monthly throughout 1967. He continued to progress and gain weightduring the rest of the year, and in June, 1968, his weight was up to forty-seven pounds, and he was continuing with the castor oil packs. He was not seen during 1968 and 1969because he was doing so well. When I last saw him in January, 1971, his weight was up to sixty-four and one-halfpounds. He had had no colds or infection during this whole year. He had not neededcastor oil packs. He was doing so well in school that he was in the top reading group inhis school. He had many friends, and during the Summer of 1970 he had been on theswim team and won seven ribbons. He seemed to be very well adjusted at that time. His mother stated that once in a while he would have a stomach-ache and would beginto feel a little out of sorts and would ask for his castor oil pack.In another case, a speech therapist wrote: "After reading one of your medicalbulletins, I suggested to the mother of a student of mine (chronic hyperkinetic brainsyndrome, age three, also epileptic) that she rub castor oil on the child for a half hourbefore naps and bedtime. Site reports that after three days the child still has difficulty ingetting to sleep, but that now she sings herself to sleep instead of' the whining-cryingand that although she still awakens during the night, she sings instead of crying." The oil,of course, was massaged into the abdominal area. Our January symposium two years ago centered on this distressing problem. Nowcomes a report from James Satterfield (Behavior Today, July 3, 1972) that hyperkineticchildren apparently have an immature nervous system. This was shown by the EEGblips evoked by auditory stimuli, which were fewer in number and of less amplitude thanthose in the control group. Satterfield, a psychiatrist, studied thirty-one hyperactivechildren between the ages of six and nine, and twenty-one normal controls. This is of interest to us, perhaps, because of the concept that the body can bereturned to normal, in balance, in development, in function, and because the primarytherapy we have been working within the problem of hyperactivity is castor oil packsapplied to the abdomen. The theory behind this is that such a vibratory influence insome manner causes this central portion of the autonomic nervous system to bringabout a coordination and equalization within the body which would then promote a morerapid maturation of the nervous system than would otherwise be expected.Edgar Cayce Readings copyright 1971, 1993-2010 by the Edgar Cayce Foundation10

HYPERACTIVITY CIRCULATING FILEIntroduction to a Research ProjectDear Parents,Many parents came to Edgar Cayce asking for help with their children who hadeither physical or mental and emotional difficulties. Some of the material in thesereadings has been extracted and is available to parents who might want to try thetechniques recommended in the readings. In January of 1973 we initiated a research project [no longer in progress] thatenabled parents to follow systematically suggestions given for children in the EdgarCayce readings. In order that such research be meaningful, we requested that interestedparents be willing to use these techniques with their child for a period of twenty-eightdays. We were interested in this initial period for purposes of the research study, and feltthat there was reason to believe that with some children definite improvements could bemade in the first twenty-eight days. The report of the findings of that study are includedin this file. The information in the readings indicates that the success of these methods restswith the purposes and attitudes of the parents, who in order to work with the proceduresmay have to alter their life style somewhat.Do not begin unless there is sincerity in both parents . for the body is meetingitself; but so must those responsible for this entity meet themselves.4013-1If you have decided that this work is worth the time and effort required of you, then the next step is to prepare yourselves. The Edgar Cayce readings are very clearabout this. As the parents prepare themselves, these methods can be of a greaterinfluence upon the child. Specific directions for preparation were given to parents in thereadings. These directions will be found in some of the readings included in this file, andin a summary page [page 15] entitled ―Parents‘ Preparation‖. These specific suggestionsshould be used before beginning the application of the other procedures. The readingsindicate that this period when you work on yourself before beginning the work with thechild is as important to the results as anything that follows. As outlined in the readings, the suggested techniques for use with the childinclude: castor oil packs, spinal massage and pre-sleep suggestion. Detaileddescriptions of these procedures are included in this file. There have been studies withindividual aspects of these procedures with highly significant results. There is reason tobelieve that a combination of these three individual aspects will be effective. As you study the readings included in this file, you will notice that othertechniques or devices are mentioned. One is the Radio Active Appliance. Because of theexpense involved in obtaining such an appliance, our research work has not includedthis procedure. If you feel that it is important that you include this device, information onthe cost and availability of the Radio Active Appliance can be obtained from BaarProducts, www.baar.com or call 800-269-2502.We recommend that you begin the application of the concepts in these readings withthe pre-sleep suggestion, massage and castor oil packs. Most families have discovered thatthese three procedures keep them quite busy. Procedures which appear only once in thereadings included in this file may have been specifically designed for the child who receivedthe reading. The three recommended procedures appear in many readings. It is important to remember that the information used to develop this approachwas given for persons other than your child. Many of the medical recommendations fromthe readings, as well as suggestions to individuals for self-understanding and balance, have proven to be highly effective when used by others. It is hoped that the same will betrue for this information, but we can in no way guarantee results .Sincerely, A.R.E. HYPERACTIVITY CIRCULATING FILECauses of Behavioral Problems in Childrenfrom the Edgar Cayce ReadingsThe Edgar Cayce readings refer to three basic causes of behavioralproblems in children. The first two have to do with physical imbalances or lack ofcoordination between parts of the physical body. The first of these is anincoordination of the cerebrospinal and the sympathetic nervous systems. Such aproblem was designated as the cause of childhood difficulties ranging from visualproblems to the lack of proper physical development. Most often such a conditionresults in nervousness, irritability or restlessness. Usually the readings describethe origins of this imbalance as pressure along the spine. Sometimes this is theresult of damage done at birth or an accident or fall in the early years. The second basic cause is an incoordination with the glandular system. Inexplaining the importance of this system, the readings say:All portions of the nervous system of the physical body, of the physicalfunctioning, are affected by those activities of secretions through glandularforces of the body.566-7The readings establish the fact that the nervous and glandular systemsare related, but the exact description of that relationship varied from case tocase. In one instance a reading explained that a young girl had disturbances inthe glands that caused a strain or pressure upon the nervous system. In otherreadings, it is an existing problem in the nervous systems that exerts adetrimental influence upon the glandular system of the child. We can however, observe one fundamental concept from this: there is a significant inter-relationbetween the two, and that which brings the one into a greater balance will have apositive effect upon the other. The final basic cause of behavioral difficulties in children as described inthe readings is suppression. In this case the problem may or may not be coupledwith physiological incoordinations. There are significantly fewer readings in whichthe child‘s problem is related only to suppression, but this factor is likely to beactive in most all cases to various degrees. The suppression of consciousmaterial into the unconscious of the child often causes a sort of psychic pressurethat can result in animosities, hates, rebellions, or other negative attitudes.Any of these three basic problems within the body and mind of the childcan result in hyperactivity, belligerency, extreme moodiness, irregular appetite, and many other physical
