About the CIAThe Certified Internal Auditor (CIA ) certification is the mostprestigious professional qualification in its field and is the onlyrecognised and accepted internal audit certification worldwide. TheCertified Internal Auditor designation is granted by the Institute ofInternal Audit (IIA) and is the global benchmark that demonstrates theskills and competencies internal audit professionals are expected tohave.A CIA holder is identified as: An expert with deep understanding of the international standards for theprofessional practice of internal auditing (IPPF) A credible and trusted internal auditor with high ethical grounding A professional who’s adept in the leading practices and standards ofInternal Audit and the IIA A professional with a wealth of knowledge in Governance, Risk andControl.The CIA community entails over 200,000 chartered professionalsacross more than 170 countries around the world. Getting qualifiedEducationYou must meet thefollowing eligibilityrequirements foreducation, character,work experience, andidentification.Before each application isapproved, alldocumentation (proof ofeducation, characterreference, andidentification) must bereceived and approved bythe IIA.8 Certified Internal AuditorYou must hold an Associate's degree orhigher to be approved into one of the IIA’scertification programs. Common equivalentsare a Foundation Degree, Diploma of HigherEducation, Higher National Diploma,or threeA-level certificates with a grade of C orhigher are also acceptable.Experience requirementsEach academic level requires a set numberof years of experience as follows:Academic levelRelevant years ofexperienceMBA1 yearBBA2 yearsAssociate Degree/3 A level Certificates(grade C or higher)5 years

Character referenceEligibility periodYou must exhibit high moral andprofessional character and mustsubmit a Character Referencesigned by a CIA, CGAP, CCSA,CFSA, CRMA, or the candidate'ssupervisor.You need to complete the programcertification process within threeyears of application approval. If youdo not complete the certificationprocess within three years, all feesand exam parts will be forfeited.Code of ethicsContinuing ProfessionalEducation (CPE)You must agree to abide by theCode of Ethics established by TheIIA.Passing scoreThe IIA will conduct astandard-setting study based onthe revised CIA syllabus. The IIA’sProfessional Certifications Boardwill use these results to determinethe passing score of the exams.For each CIA exam part, a rawscore (the number of itemsanswered correctly) will beconverted into a scaled scoreranging from 250 to 750 points.A scaled score of 600 or higher isrequired to pass a CIA exam.Upon certification, and as a CIAholder, you are required to maintainyour knowledge and skills and stayabreast of improvements and currentdevelopments by satisfying CPErequirements.As a CIA holder, you are expected toreport 40 CPE hours per year in caseyou are a practitioner.
