We are thrilled you decided to join usfor this momentous occasion.This year’s conference features over fifty artists in solo recitals, presentations,group warm-ups, master classes, and ensemble concerts. In addition, we areproud to welcome a tremendous number of students from all over the region whoare participating in ensemble performances and a multitude of competitions. Dr. Ryan RobinsonConference HostDr. Robinson joined the faculty of the Oklahoma State University Michael andAnne Greenwood School of Music in 2018. He is Principal Tuba of the Symphonyof Northwest Arkansas and Principal Tuba of the Lawton Philharmonic. Dr.Robinson is the founder and host of the Eastman Tuba Academy. Prior tohis appointment at OSU, Dr. Robinson held teaching positions at OklahomaCity University, Tarleton State University, and Southwestern Oklahoma StateUniversity. His degrees are from the University of North Texas (BM, DMA) andNorthwestern University (MM).Dr. Robinson enjoys a busy and diverse career as a professional tubist. As anorchestral tubist, he has performed with the Houston Symphony, Oklahoma CityPhilharmonic, Tulsa Symphony, Fort Smith Symphony, Las Colinas Symphony,Allen Philharmonic, and the Blue Lake Festival Band. He has accompanied a widevariety of artists including Weird Al, Kristin Chenoweth, Hansen, Michael W. Smith,BJ Thomas, and Dave Brubeck.As an active member of International Tuba Euphonium Association, Dr. Robinsonhas performed and adjudicated at numerous regional and internationalconferences. He has also served as a host for two regional conferences in 2015and 2022.Dr. Robinson is an Eastman Winds Artist.SCRTEC

Dr. Kazuo MurakamiCollaborative PianistDr. Kazuo Murakami is Lecturer of Piano and Coordinator of Collaborative Piano at the Universityof Central Arkansas where he joined the faculty in 2008. Murakami is a sought-after soloist andcollaborative artist in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. Originally from Japan, Murakami began his studiesin piano at the age of four. After studying at the Kyoto City University of Arts, Murakami continuedhis studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he won the Sadie Zellen Piano Prize. Murakamiearned a D.M.A. in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Iowa in December 2011,where he served two years as Research Assistant (Pianist) of the University of Iowa’s New MusicEnsemble directed by distinguished composition professor David Gompper.Murakami specializes in 20th century and contemporary music. His wide performing repertoireincludes works by Alban Berg, Arnold Schoenberg, Oliver Messiaen, Henri Dutilleux, Ichiyanagi Toshi,Franco Donatoni, and Rodion Shchedrin. As a guest pianist, he has performed Berg’s ChamberConcerto for Violin, Piano, 13 woodwind instruments, Stravinsky’s Petroushka, in addition to orchestralworks by Sergei Prokofiev and Olivier Messiaen. His playing has been featured on radio broadcastsincluding NPR’s Arts & Letters with J. Bradley Minnick. In addition, Murakami is in high demand asa collaborative artist. Murakami has recorded several albums of contemporary and chamber music,including collaborative projects with distinguished saxophonists, Kenneth Tse and Nobuya Sugawa andan album of chamber and solo piano works, Arnold Schoenberg, and his Periods.Murakami has been part of numerous chamber recitals and ensembles performing at universitiesand venues across the United States and Asia and has performed at several conferences includingthe 2006 and 2016 North American Saxophone Alliance Biennial Conferences, the 2018 and 2022International Trombone Festival, the 2015 International Double Reed Society and the 2022 SouthCentral Regional Tuba Euphonium Conference. In addition, he serves as collaborative pianist at theUniversity of Central Arkansas for 60 faculty, guest artist and student recitals annually. He washonored recently to present recitals with UCA’s guest artist, Gene Pokorny, Principal Tuba, the ChicagoSymphony Orchestra.His primary teachers include Uriel Tsachor, Daniel Shapiro, Naoyuki Taneda, Atsuko Jinzai, and HidetoNishikawa. Murakami has studied chamber music with Tricia Park, Peter Salaff and Vivian Weilerstein.In addition to this, he has worked with renowned pianists including Logan Skelton, Andre MichelSchub, Josef Kalichstein, Stephen Hough, Misha Dichter, Oxana Yablonskaya, and Klaus Schilde. As apassionate educator, Murakami enjoys working with local and international piano students. Many ofhis students continue to study at the university level and have gone on to celebrate successful careersin music. When not at the piano, Murakami is an avid hiker!SCRTEC

Kristy OlefskyCollaborative PianistMaking her professional debut at age 10 with the Kammergild Symphony, Kristyhas soloed with many orchestras including the Town and Country Symphony, St.Charles Symphony, Webster University Symphony, and the St. Louis Symphony.She has been invited to present solo recitals at the Sheldon Concert Hall, ChristChurch Cathedral, E. Desmond Lee Concert Hall, and Missouri State University.Kristy was a principal performer at the St. Louis Municipal Opera, a guest artist atthe opening ceremony of the International Piano Pedagogy Teacher’s Conference,and was featured on NPR’s “From the Top.”Currently based in Northwest Arkansas, Kristy serves as orchestral pianist inthe Artosphere Festival Orchestra, is faculty at NorthWest Arkansas CommunityCollege, maintains a private studio at Arkansas Music Conservatory, and ispart of the Music Ministry team at First Presbyterian Church of Bentonville.Specializing in brass accompaniment, she has performed with artists such asAllen Vizzutti, Wiff Rudd, Demondrae Thurman, and Patrick Sheridan.She can be heard on the albums “Notes from the Underground,” “Pa la Calle,”and “Undreamed Shores,” “Mirrors,” and “Impressions of France.”SCRTEC

Ellen SommerCollaborative PianistPianist Ellen R. Sommer is a sought-after collaborative pianist, chamber musician, and coach. Herreputation for excellence has led to extensive engagements throughout the United States, Canada,Central and South Americas, Europe and Asia. Recent performances include a recital playing chambermusic at the Montgomery Arts House for Music and Architecture in Malibu, California, with MariaNewman, Scott Hosfeld and instrumentalists from the Metropolitan Opera orchestra; and a series ofconcerts and master classes in San Jose, Costa Rica at the Universidad de Costa Rica, and Casa de lamusica in Quito, Ecuador.Ellen can be heard on numerous professional recordings, including five under the auspices of PotenzaMusic, Parma, and Albany Records. Most recently Ellen recorded works of composer, Ingrid Stolzel forParma Records, and the Albany recording with saxophonist Nicolas May.Ellen is a founding member of Allegresse, a fresh and inspiring trio for flute, oboe and piano. Recipientsof the National Endowment for the Arts American Masterpieces: Chamber Music Grant, the trio’sperformances have taken them throughout North America, Central and South America, Europe andAsia. Allegresse is currently completing a third compact disc recording and most recently premieredtwo commissioned pieces for the trio and soprano.Ellen serves as a pianist for regional, national and international conferences, competitions andfestivals including MTNA, NATS, IDRS, and ICA; as well as concert series and radio broadcasts suchas the Dame Myra Hess recital series in Chicago, IL. Ellen is a frequent performer in the live radiobroadcast studio at Kansas Public Radio. Additionally Ellen coaches and collaborates at severalsummer camps and institutes, including the Omaha Conservatory of Music Institute, Brian Lewis YoungArtist Program, Sound Encounters Suzuki Strings Camp, Midwestern Music Camp and Interlochen Artssummer camps. Ellen served as the collaborative piano coordinator at Interlochen 2015-2016.Currently Sommer serves as an Associate Professor of Practice at the University of Kansas School ofMusic, teaching collaborative piano. She performs regularly with faculty, visiting artists, and students.From 1994-2003 Sommer taught at Missouri Western State University, both as piano and voice faculty.In addition, Sommer serves as pianist/coach for the William Jewell College Vocal Artist Diplomaprogram.In 2016 Ellen was named one of three Distinguished Alumni from Missouri Western State University inSaint Joseph, MO.SCRTEC

Dr. Jeff BakerCompetitions CoordinatorJeff Baker is Associate Professor of Tuba & Euphonium at Texas A&M UniversityCommerce. Dr. Baker received music degrees from the University of Oklahoma(BM) and the University of North Texas (MM and DMA). He has served as anadjunct instructor at the University of North Texas and Cameron University inLawton, Oklahoma, and taught private lessons in the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplexfor almost 20 years.Dr. Baker is Principal Tuba/Cimbasso for the Dallas Opera Orchestra. As afreelance musician, he has performed with numerous ensembles including theDallas Symphony Orchestra, the Dallas Winds, the Ft. Worth Symphony Orchestra,the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra, the Lone StarWind Orchestra, and the Wichita Grand Opera. Dr. Baker has also been a partof over twenty recording projects on the Dallas Opera, Ft. Worth Symphony, EPR,Klavier, Mark, and Naxos labels. He has performed as a featured soloist with avariety of groups, most notably the US Army Orchestra (Pershing’s Own) and as aconcerto competition winner with the University of North Texas Symphonic Band.In 2018, Dr. Baker received the H.M. Lafferty Distinguished Faculty Award, thehighest research honor offered by Texas A&M University-Commerce, and in 2019,he was recognized as a Global Fellow for his teaching, service, and researchendeavors in Brazil.Dr. Baker serves as the coordinator for the Commerce, Dallas, Ft. Worth, andAllen, TUBACHRISTMAS events and is the master of ceremonies for the DentonTUBACHRISTMAS. These annual holiday concerts involve over 750 tuba andeuphonium players from the North Texas area and total audience attendancenumbers in the thousands. He is the creator and artistic director for the TexasTuba Camp and a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, theInternational Tuba and Euphonium Association, the International TromboneAssociation, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.SCRTEC

Parking InstructionsAs with most college campuses, parking is at a premium at Oklahoma State University. Despitebeing on spring break, the parking office has communicated that all rules and regulationswill be enforced with no exceptions. Fortunately, there are several good options available.Here are four options for parking near the McKnight Center and Greenwood School of Music.Additionally, many surface lots on campus do not require a permit after 5pm and on weekends.However, please follow the rules that are clearly displayed for each lot to avoid fines.1. Metered spots in the 4th Avenue GarageThis garage is attached to the McKnight Center and The Greenwood School of Music and has alarge number of metered spots on the ground floor.
