Theweather certainly did not dampen the enthusiasm of those who supported their favouritesports team by wearing their team colourslast Friday for the P&F Showdown Day. I thinkeveryone also enjoyed eating their doughnuts. Overall the total funds raised were 842which will be going towards a new Nature’sPlay Garden which will be situated in front ofthe Performing Arts Centre. This will be fencedoff to provide additional security and will be afabulous place for our students to spread outand enjoy themselves outdoors. On Wednesday the Years 3 – 6 began the planning stage for the Learning Festival which willbe held in place of their End of Year Concert.Students were able to select a theme andmedium (dance, art, music, IT, media, sports, science etc) that interested them and workedin mixed groups of students from Years 3-6.They started with the Empathy and Definestage of the Design Thinking process. It wasa very exciting experience and wonderful tosee the students so engaged in their planningand thinking deeply about what it was theywanted to achieve. This will be a regular occurrence in lessons 4 & 5 of every Wednesday, held immediately after UP Chapel. This is sucha wonderful opportunity for our students andit was such a privilege to see such enthusiasmfor their learning and deep thinking. I am verymuch looking forward to watching how theyprogress over the semester.A quick reminder to parents, especially thoseparents of Junior Primary students who accessour JP Playground. In order to provide a safearea for play for our Reception/Year 1 students,we kindly ask all parents to please refrainfrom entering the JP Playground. We needto ensure all of our students are kept safe bykeeping the enclosed playground to strictlystudent usage only. Teachers on duty are theonly adults permitted to be in the playground.Out of respect for all students on site, pleasedo not pick up, hug or handle any child who isnot yours. This also goes for resolving conflictbetween students. At no time must a parentconfront a child of another family. If you havea concern or an issue with a student, please refer the matter immediately to your child’s classteacher. Your support in this matter is greatlyappreciated. This term will be a busy one with Book Weekbeing held in Week 5. Students will have anopportunity to dress up on Wednesday 22ndof August according to the guidelines on page2 . Then on Thursday 30th of August, in Week6, it is School Photo Day. A school photo envelope has been delivered to each family, and thedeadline for payment for the school photos ison the 30th of August. On Thursday 8th of August we had a wholeschool evacuation before school due to a carfire in our front car park. It was suspected tohave been caused by a faulty car battery. Iwas very proud at the response of everyonewho followed instructions and behaved in avery calm manner. The entire episode lastedfor only 20 minutes and we had a very promptattendance by the Fire Department. Thesituation was dealt with with efficiency andprofessionalism, and students were able tostart classes as per normal.I wish you all a wonderful week with yourfamily.God bless you,Deb CliffordDeputy PrincipalBethany Christian School Newsletter 2018 1
