Think safety and always ski orboard with a helmet on. Are you ready? Is your equipmentready? Need new equipment or need to upgrade your oldequipment? Our annual Ski Sale and Fest will take place onNovember 8-10, 2013. Have any used equipment you wantto sell, bring it to the Depot on November 7-8, 2013.This summer has been hotter and drier than normal.Hopefully, we will make up for the lack of precipitationwith an above normal snowfall this winner. Think Snow! This year, we have kept all your favorite ski trips, andadded a new trip to Galena Lodge for the x-country, snowshoe, or backcountry skier. Don’t forget to attend the Avalanche Awareness night in December and if you plan anybackcountry activity then consider the Avalanche Level 1training course. Many of these trips have limited space, soif you are thinking of going on a specific trip I recommendsigning up early. Many people missed out on trips last yearbecause they waited too long and could not sign up.Your Idaho Falls Ski Club (IFSC) membership automatically includes membership to boththe ISC and the FWSA. 4In the 1950’s, local residents of Idaho Falls came togetherto form the Idaho Falls Ski Club (IFSC). Over these manyyears the IFSC went through many evolutions, but the maingoal remained throughout, which was to promote the sportsof Alpine and Nordic skiing and to make it affordable toeveryone, especially for families. This became the founding principle in the IFSC Mission statement. The IFSC hasbeen successful all these years by staying true to our mission, values and not straying from our goal. The IFSC hadas few as several hundred members in the early years toover 5,000 members in the years around 2000. Today, ourmembership has stayed fairly steady at around 2000 members.IFSC is taking the knowledge of avalanche awareness veryseriously. Over 20 people have been killed this year by avalanches in the Rockies, which is why we make our avalanche awareness course free and open to the public. Wealso provide level one avalanche training to our members ata discount through the American Avalanche Institute. Theknowledge of what can trigger an avalanche is critical information for anyone entering the backcountry and IFSCwants to make that information available.IFSC supports many local groups throughout the year.
