Dear Alumni and Friends,If one were to choose an institution that captures the true spirit and mission of public highereducation, it could well be Farmingdale State College. Our unwavering commitment to studentsuccess is surely a key reason that we remain one of the fastest growing four-year publicinstitutions.Although this year is unlike any other in Farmingdale’s history, one fact remains the same: ourmost remarkable stories revolve around our students. More than 70% of them work while theystudy and, on average, work twice as many hours as students attending other SUNY four-yearcolleges. Nearly one-third of our students continue to be first generation to college, and 45%identify as members of minority groups.John S. Nader, PhDPresidentFarmingdale State CollegeA MESSAGEFROM THELEADERSHIPAs the College embraces the future with great enthusiasm, we look forward to working witheven more alumni, corporate partners, and friends to create new pathways to success. COVID-19STUDENTEMERGENCYFUND RESPONSEFATIMA DARSciences - Health Professions - Class of ’21AMOUNTRAISED 136,000With the economic disruption caused by the Coronavirus, it becamedifficult for many students to navigate their academic journey. Inresponse, the Farmingdale Foundation established the COVID-19Student Emergency Fund. This Fund provided financial assistancefor the College’s students who, due to the impact of COVID-19,were experiencing difficulty continuing their studies in the fallThank you so much for your immense generosity. We are Farmingdale strong!NUMBER OFSTUDENTSRECEIVINGASSISTANCE2020 semester. The Fund accumulated over 136,000 from 202JAYLIN MILLER100 individuals, foundations and corporations including a matching giftfrom the SUNY Impact Foundation. Over 100 students were able toreceive assistance from this fund.To be eligible to apply for the fund, students had to be matriculated,in good academic standing and had experienced an unanticipatedNUMBEROF DONORSemergency or temporary hardship due to COVID-19. Assistancereceived was applied directly to the recipient’s student account.11 2019-20 Annual ReportI was laid off from my consulting job in the first week of August as our client is refusingto extend my engagement with the project due to financial hardships brought on by theCOVID-19 pandemic. I have applied for other part time jobs in technology to supplementmy rental and utilities costs over the fall semester but to no avail. Over the summer, I hadsublet my New York home and stayed with my aunt in upstate New York to save rentalcosts. However, since fall semester will be partially in person, I can no longer stay upstate.I will be moving back and it will be extremely difficult to manage without a part-time job. This assistance is pivotal in allowing me to continue my academic journey during the fallsemester.202Sport Management - Class of ’22I want to give a big thank you to everyone whodonated to the COVID-19 Student EmergencyFund. My family has been affected by this virusand I want to give a huge thank you to everybodywho donated.I lost my dad and my grandmother toCOVID-19. Both of them played a major rolein my education. This funding helps me tocontinue my education at Farmingdale StateCollege. It is much appreciated by me and mycolleagues at Farmingdale State College.Farmingdale College Foundation 12

FRANCESCA FRASCOProfessional Communications - Class of ’21To afford my tuition I usually work two jobs in the summer andalso babysit. I also run for the Farmingdale State College CrossCountry and Track Teams, therefore, I am also running andtraining throughout the entire summer. It is very hard to juggle allthese responsibilities at once, but I do it because I love learning atFarmingdale and I love being a Farmingdale State College athlete. The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the number of hours Iam able to work. Both of my parents are furloughed, meaningthey cannot work as much as they did prior to the pandemic.Their hours have also been cut back significantly. I have taken outmultiple loans for each semester. I am one of three children in myfamily, and we are all currently in college at the same time, eachpaying our own tuitions ourselves. Unfortunately, this is a difficultfinancial situation, and has been made worse by the COVID-19pandemic. Despite the pandemic, my financial situation will staythis way until I finish college in 2021. My parents cannot choose toassist one child and not the others. Saying I would love to return toFarmingdale in the fall is an understatement.Thank you to everyone who donated to the COVID-19 StudentEmergency Fund. Thank you for keeping us on track, keeping usin college and keeping us strong. I could not appreciate you anymore than I already do.13 2019-20 Annual ReportELIEZER ROZWASKIBusiness Management - Class of ’20I am married with three kids and it was extremely difficult forme during COVID-19 to have my wife and kids home, as we livein a small apartment. Helping me to graduate at the end of thissemester, will allow me to pursue my dreams as well as hopefullymake a better salary for my wife and family. It is truly unbelievablethat during these very difficult times, we saw a bright light at the endof the tunnel.I want to thank all of the donors and the College for putting all ofthis together. Thank you so much. I really hope to make everybodyproud by graduating this semester, as well as doing good in the world.JADE HARTCORNAviation Administration - Class of ’21Thank you, donors, for your generosity and contributions. This fundhas truly helped me to continue studying here at Farmingdale thisfall semester. Through these tough times, money is tight, especiallywhen there are loans, bills, and car insurance to be paid. Besidesthat, there are personal hardships. Being granted some of the fundhas made me so incredibly grateful. Thank you again!Farmingdale College Foundation 14

STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP SPOTLIGHT“This scholarship willdefinitely help memove forward with myeducation goals.”This year, the Dental Hygiene Department selected Rebecca Pepey as therecipient for the Betsy Smith Cronin Memorial Scholarship. Rebecca hasdone a little bit of everything! She went to college straight from high school, but never really knew exactly what she wanted to major in. She left collegeand became a deli owner at age 24. After selling her business, she was a retailmanager for many years. She became a mother and police officer at age 30.She left the police department to be a stay-at-home mom at age 35. At age38, she became a mother again with identical twin boys. She continued to stayhome with the kids until the twins started pre-school.As her children got a bit older, Rebecca started thinking about a “career”instead of a “job”. She applied to the Dental Hygiene Program at FarmingdaleState College, while already taking prerequisites so that she might get into theprogram a year earlier than expected.Rebecca stated, “Receiving this scholarship has confirmed for me that Imade the right decision to go back to school later in life. I had my doubtswhether I could keep up with such a rigorous dental hygiene workload, butthis scholarship has affirmed for me that I am moving in the right direction. It is simply an honor to be recognized. I am most proud of accomplishingadmirable grades while juggling family time as well, with my three young boys.It is not easy to spend quality time with them and also find the time requiredto study.”REBECCA PEPEY ’2015 2019-20 Annual ReportRebecca had this to say to the scholarship donor, Mr. George Cronin, “I wouldlove to simply say thank you. I want to express my appreciation for yourgenerosity. This scholarship will definitely help me move forward with myeducation goals. I sincerely appreciate your kindness. Thank you! Thank you!Thank you!”The CorwinFamily FoundationScholarship recipientsmeet the donor at aluncheon hosted byPresident Nader inthe fall of 2019The Corwin Family FoundationScholarship was establishedin 2017 to honor the legacy ofalumnus Arthur Corwin, a 1976graduate of the FarmingdaleState College ConstructionManagement EngineeringTechnology program. THE 2019PRESIDENT’SGALA“Farmingdale isa success story, what has happenedto the campus, the institutionit has become,is amazing.”- Sen. John Brooks ’7417 2019-20 Annual ReportNew York State Senator John Brooks isn’t justa legislator whose district happens to includethe campus. In fact, he is a staunch advocatefor the College, a frequent visitor, a championof FSC causes and, it so happens, a proudalumnus—Class of ’74.For those reasons, and more, Brooks washonored at the annual President’s Gala inNovember - the Foundation’s signaturefundraising event which raised 191,000.He received the President’s Award forAlumni Leadership, appropriate recognitionfor someone who has witnessed and praisedFarmingdale’s transition from agricultureto technology. His vivid memories of histime at the College (then known as SUNYFarmingdale) include a dairy, barns, and amenagerie of farm animals.“I always talk about the pigs and the cows,”Brooks says. “That’s what I remember aboutthe old days.”Of course, there was no Campus Center at thetime. No gleaming School of Business building. No first-rate athletic facilities with artificialturf and lights. In fact, the campus bears littleresemblance to the one he knew when startinghis coursework in Business Administration. But Brooks doesn’t cling to FSC’s past. Instead,he continues to help the College continueits push as the leading College of Technologyin SUNY in terms of enrollment, academicprograms, and student outcomes. And hehas led the drumbeat along with Assemblymembers Steve Stern and Kimberly Jean-Pierre for state support for a new academicbuilding that would allow FSC to expandits capacity.T H E PR ESIDEN T ’ S AWA R DS“Farmingdale is a success story,” he says.“What has happened to the campus, theinstitution it has become, is amazing.”Of course, much of FSC’s progress can beattributed to the dedication of its facultyand staff. So Dr. Charles Adair received thePresident’s Award for Faculty Leadership forhis long-standing contributions to the Collegebeginning as a professor and chair of theBiology Department in 1988. He is currentlyDean of the School of Arts & Sciences anda member of the board of the Broad HollowBioscience Park. He was honored with theChancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teachingin 2003 and a campus CARES Award in 2010.The President’s Award for Student Leadershipwas presented to Sonia Y. Chemerisov(Bioscience ’21), a native of the DominicanRepublic who is an orientation leader, residentassistant, a member of the Golden KeyInternational Honor Society, and a volunteerin the American Cancer Society’s Relay forLife. The Ram’s Horn Award for CorporateLeadership was given to Barnes & NobleCollege (accepted by Raymond McGale,Regional Manager), FSC’s bookstore partnerfor over 25 years, for its service to the campusand its philanthropic support. B&N has alsodemonstrated its commitment to FSC byimplementing changes and introducing newtechnologies to support faculty and students.SEN. JOHN BROOKS ’74BARNES & NOBLE COLLEGEDR. Working while learningis one of the hardest things a person can do. Juggling all ofthese responsibilities at once is definitely something thatcould easily hinder my college experience. I want to be ableto walk out of college with a smile on my face, not a sighof relief. I am the first one in my family to attend college. This scholarship will allow me to hold my head up high andset a great example for my little brother. If I can show himthat attending college is not as unrealistic and stressfulas originally perceived, that would mean the world to me.Once again, thank you so very much.Thank you for recognizing theeffort that I have put in and thankyou for your generous donationthat will go towards tuition. Thisscholarship shows me that if I keepstriving forward, good things willcome. I come from a big family andam mostly independent from myparents financially.
