Tenets of the Presbyterian Church7. Covenant Community (Presbyterian & Distinctive)Hebrews 8:10 This is the covenant I will make with the house ofIsrael after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws intheir minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God,and they will be my people. 11 No longer will a man teach hisneighbor, or a man his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord,'because they will all know me, from the least of them to thegreatest. 12 For I will forgive their wickedness and willremember their sins no more." 13 By calling this covenant"new," he has made the first one obsolete; and what isobsolete and aging will soon disappear8. Faithful Stewards(Presbyterian & Distinctive)Matthew 6:19 "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in andsteal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do notbreak in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there yourheart will be also. 22 "The eye is the lamp of the body. What is Reformed Theology?Reformed has been used for centuries todesignate one of the four major streams of theProtestant Reformation: Lutheran, Anabaptist,Anglican, and Reformed. In this narrowersense, Reformed churches are those bodiesthat grew out of the Reformation inSwitzerland, following the spiritual andintellectual lead of Huldrych Zwingli in Zurichand John Calvin in Geneva. The Reformed family of churches and theirshared tradition are not named after theirfounder (as in Lutheran), or a distinguishingpractice (as in Baptist), or the location of theirestablishment (as in Anglican). But why arethese churches and the tradition they embodycalled Reformed?Executive Presbyter: Wm. Knudsen24

Reformed and Always ReformingChurches in the Reformed tradition arechurches that are “reformed and always tobe reformed (ecclesia reformata semperreformanda) according to the word of God.”Reformed churches know that God hasreformed the church and that God willcontinue to reform the church. Reform of thechurch is not mere change, however, andcertainly not “modernization.” Reform of thechurch comes from the leading of God’sword, made present in the power of theSpirit.Executive Presbyter: Wm.
