2020 RECOVERY COMMUNITY SUMMIT : BUILDING COMMUNITY, BUILDING POWERAUGUST 19-20, 2020Building Community,Building Power01

Welcome Summiteers!2020 RECOVERY COMMUNITY SUMMIT: BUILDING COMMUNITY, BUILDING POWERWe are excited to welcome you to the 2nd Annual Virtual Recovery Community Summit! In deference to theextraordinary organizing work going on across Oregon’s recovery community, the theme of this year’s Summit isBuilding Community, Building Power.Recovery has a history of anonymity and it has been difficult to build recovery communities that are larger than our ownprograms. However, thanks to the courageous work done in Oregon over the past three years by many of you, therecovery community has emerged from church basements and hospital meeting rooms into the light of day. Andbecause of the strong community we now have, we are beginning to build power. The power to transform policy inSalem. The power to stand up to “Big Alcohol.” The power to end Oregon’s addiction crisis. The last five months have been anything but ordinary. We struggled individually and as a community to maintain ourrecovery--and support our clients and family members in recovery-- despite an inability to gather in person for our“meetings”, when our financial stability was threatened, and when the isolation of social distancing seemed too much tobear. In spite of all that, every one of you is with us today. There is true power in participating in this event, and we hopethat it will provide opportunities for you to reconnect with your community and build bridges to new friends andcolleagues all over the state. By participating in the Summit, you are making our recovery community stronger and, hopefully, strengthening your own recovery. We know that a virtual event is not the same as meeting with your peers in person. However, our amazing RCS PlanningCommittee has worked tirelessly to design a virtual meeting space that has opportunities for you to connect with otherrecovery community members in new and unique ways. We want you to share ideas and create bonds that will last farinto the future. This summit is not only two days of education, it is a chance to create relationships that will last longafter the panels and workshops have finished. Finally, Oregon Recovers has big plans for 2021 and we’re going to need your help! Please be sure to stick around for theClosing Session to learn about how you can help us affect sweeping systems change in the next year. The RecoveryCommunity Summit is a continuation of the diverse, engaging and energetic community that Oregon Recovers has beenbuilding over the last three years and we’re excited to take our collective power to the next level!Welcome!Se-ah-dom EdmoTony VezinaMike MarshallCO-CHAIRCO-CHAIREXECUTIVE DIRECTORThank You to Our Planning Committee!Ashlei FraserJose Luis GarciaMeggan McCevoyBonnie WindhamLeilani BrewerTeri MorganChuck HemingwayLore VencesVictor ReppetoAND TO ALL OUR LOVELY VOLUNTEERS!
