Even people who have nohistory of seizures or epilepsy may have anundiagnosed condition that can cause these“photosensitive epileptic seizures” whilewatching video games. These seizures may have a variety ofsymptoms, including lightheadedness, altered vision, eye, or face twitching, jerkingor shaking of arms or legs, disorientation, confusion, or momentary loss of awareness.Seizures may also cause loss of consciousnessor convulsions that can lead to injury fromfalling down or striking nearby objects.Immediately stop playing and consulta doctor if you experience any of thesesymptoms. Parents should watch for or asktheir children about the above symptoms—children and teenagers are more likely thanadults to experience these seizures. The riskof photosensitive epileptic seizures may bereduced by taking the following precautions: Sit or stand farther from the TV screen. Use a smaller TV screen. Play in a well-lit room. Do not play when you are drowsy orfatigued. If you or any of your relatives have ahistory of seizures or epilepsy, consult adoctor before playing.Musculoskeletal DisordersUse of game controllers, keyboards, mice, orother electronic input devices may be linkedto serious injuries or disorders. When playing video games, as with manyactivities, you may experience occasionaldiscomfort in your hands, arms, shoulders, neck, or other parts of your body. However, ifyou experience symptoms such as persistentor recurring discomfort, pain, throbbing, aching, tingling, numbness, burningsensation, or stiffness, DO NOT IGNORETHESE WARNING SIGNS. PROMPTLY SEEA QUALIFIED HEALTH PROFESSIONAL,even if symptoms occur when you are notplaying a video game. Symptoms such asthese can be associated with painful andsometimes permanently disabling injuriesor disorders of the nerves, muscles, tendons, blood vessels, and other parts of the body. These musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs)include carpal tunnel syndrome, tendinitis, tenosynovitis, vibration syndromes, andother conditions. While researchers are not yet able to answermany questions about MSDs, there is generalagreement that many factors may be linkedto their occurrence, including medical andphysical conditions, stress and how one copeswith it, overall health, and how a personpositions and uses their body during workand other activities (including playing a videogame). Some studies suggest the amount of time aperson performs an activity may be a factor. Some guidelines that may help you work andplay more comfortably and possibly reduceyour risk of experiencing an MSD can befound in the Healthy Gaming Guide at xbox.com/xboxone/playhealthy. These guidelinesaddress topics such as: Positioning yourself to use comfortable, not awkward, postures. Keeping your hands, fingers, and other5

body parts relaxed.Taking breaks.Developing a healthy lifestyle. If you have questions about how your ownlifestyle, activities, or medical or physicalcondition may be related to MSDs, see aqualified health professional.WARNING: Choking HazardThis device may contain small parts that maybe a choking hazard to children under 3.Keep small parts away from children.Make sure children play safelyMake sure children using any Xbox Oneaccessory together with the Xbox Oneconsole and Kinect sensor play safely andwithin their limits, and make sure that theyunderstand proper use of the system.Avoid glareTo minimize eyestrain from glare, try thefollowing: Position yourself at a comfortabledistance from your television or monitorand the Kinect sensor. To reduce the risk of suchinjuries and damage to the Xbox Oneconsole, set up the Xbox One according tothese instructions. Place the console on asurface that: Is flat and level. Is stable and not likely to tip over. Allows all four feet of the console to be incontact with the surface. Is not likely to allow the console to slip orslide off. Is clean and free of dust and debris.Position your Xbox OneYour console should only be used in thehorizontal position. If vertical positioning isdesired, an official Microsoft approved standor equivalent must be used. If you need tochange the location of your console, removediscs (for consoles containing an optical discdrive), power down the system and removeall cables before moving the console.6Prevent the console from overheatingDo not block any ventilation openings on theconsole. Do not place the console in aconfined space, such as a bookcase, rack,or stereo cabinet, unless the space is wellventilated.Do not place the console near any heatsources, such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or amplifiers.Using the Xbox One in an environmentwhere the external temperature varieswidely and quickly might damage theconsole. When moved to a location witha temperature difference of 20 degreesor more from the previous location, allowthe console to come to room temperaturebefore turning it on. The console's operatingtemperature is 5ºC ( 41ºF) to 35ºC( 95ºF).WARNING: Hearing SafetyExtended exposure to high sound volumeswhen using a headset may result intemporary or permanent hearing loss.To reduce the risk of hearing loss, set thevolume loud enough to hear clearly in quietsurroundings, and no louder. Do not increase the volume after youstart listening. Your ears can adapt overtime so that high volume sounds normal, but the high volume may still damageyour hearing.Do not increase the volume to blockout outside noise. The combinationof outside noise and sound from yourheadphones can damage your hearing.Sealed or noise-canceling headphonescan reduce outside noise so that youdon’t have to turn up the volume. If you can’t understand someone nearbyspeaking normally, turn down thevolume. Sound that drowns out normalspeech can damage your hearing.Even with sealed or noise cancelingheadphones, you should be able to hearnearby people speak.Minimize your time listening to loudsound. The more time that you spend exposedto high sound volumes, the more likelyyou are to damage your hearing. Thelouder the sound, the less time that isrequired to damage hearing. At maximum volume, listening to musicon the device with headphones canpermanently damage your hearing in15 minutes. Even lower volumes candamage hearing if you are exposed to itfor many hours. All of the sound that you

are exposed to during a day adds up. Ifyou are exposed to other loud sound, ittakes less time listening at high volumesto cause hearing damage. To safely use the device without a timelimit, keep the volume low enough thatyou can carry on a conversation withpeople nearby.CAUTION: Personal Medical DevicesRadio-frequency emissions from electronicequipment can negatively affect theoperation of other electronic equipment, causing them to malfunction. Although thedevice is designed, tested, and manufacturedto comply with regulations governing radiofrequency emission in countries such as theUnited States, Canada, the European Union, and Japan, the wireless transmitters andelectrical circuits in the device may causeinterference in other electronic equipment.Always take the following precautions:Persons with pacemakers The Health Industry ManufacturersAssociation recommends that aminimum separation of 6 inches (15 cm)be maintained between a wireless deviceand a pacemaker to avoid potentialinterference with the pacemaker. Wireless devices should not be carried ina breast pocket. If you have any reason to suspect thatinterference is occurring, turn the deviceoff immediately.Other medical devicesIf you use any other personal medical device, contact the medical device manufactureror your physician to determine whether it isappropriate for you to use other electronicdevices near your medical device.SUMMARY OF MANUFACTURER’SLIMITED HARDWARE WARRANTY& AGREEMENT (WITH BINDINGARBITRATION AND CLASS ACTIONWAIVER IN THE U.S.)Microsoft warrants that the MicrosoftProduct will not malfunction under normaluse conditions for one year (90 daysfor accessories and refurbished XboxOne consoles) from the date of originalpurchase from an authorized retailer.
