SATCC Accredited Esthetician Technical Training ProvidersIn collaboration with industry, the SATCC and The Universities and Private VocationalSchools Branch (PVS), Ministry of Advanced Education, as of July 1, 2019 allaccredited Esthetician technical training providers must have a JourneypersonEsthetician instructor or their programming accreditation will be suspended by theSATCC and The Universities and Private Vocational Schools Branch (PVS), Ministry ofAdvanced Education. This is the final deadline for Esthetician instructors to obtain theirJourneyperson credential in the Esthetician trade they are teaching. This includes allEsthetician instructors that were currently “in-process”.The following are the current, SATCC accredited, industry approved, Esthetician-NailTechnician and Esthetician-Skin Care Technician programs within Saskatchewan.These programs have been reviewed by industry representatives and fulfil therequirements of each trade. The full scope of each trade can be found in the mostrecent version of the Provincial Occupational Analysis (POA), which is available on ourweb site at www.saskapprenticeship.ca.Nail Technician or Skin Care Technician technical training can be obtained through twolearning formats:1)A full Esthetician program that covers “full scope” of the trade. This training andthe required “on-the-tools” trade time will prepare the apprentice to attempt thejourneyperson written and practical certification examinations.2)Individual/modular courses can be delivered in almost any order. Aftercompletion of modular programming classes that cover the trade’s minimumrequirements listed below and the required “on-the-tools” trade time will preparethe apprentice to attempt the journeyperson written and practical certificationexaminations.Technical training obtained before January 2009 is reviewed on an individual basis.Technical training obtained after January 2009 must be delivered by an approvedtechnical training provider and includes these minimum requirements:Nail Technician: Sanitation/Disinfection, Manicure, Pedicure, Artificial Nail (gel); andeither Powder-Liquid System (Acrylic) or one other artificial nail application.Skin Care Technician: Sanitation/Disinfection, Manicure, Pedicure, Skin Care/Facial;Make-up Artistry/Lash Enhancements; Lash and Brow Tinting and Waxing/HairRemoval.*This information is current as of March 8, 2021.

This is the current list of schools that have submitted their curriculum for review andbeen granted technical training credit or accreditation. The students who attendthese classes will gain technical training credit if they wish to pursue theirJourneyperson Certification. Schools continue to submit curriculum for review on anongoing basis and this list is regularly updated. Please continue to check ourwebsite www.saskapprenticeship.ca for the most recent list of accredited schools.I am positive I attended an SATCC accredited school; however, it is not listed here? Many schools, for various reasons, have ceased operations over time. If youattended a school and received a transcript, please submit all your documents to theSATCC. We have various accredited school’s curriculum information on file thathave ceased operations.I am a school proprietor or principal. How do I submit our curriculum(s) for review andpossible accreditation? If your curriculum is under the minimum duration of 50 hours and a tuition fee ofless than 1,000 is charged (revised November 2014), it can be submitted forreview by the SATCC. If the program is over the minimum duration of 50 hours in length and a tuitionfee of more than 1,000 is charged (revised November 2014), your school mustbe registered with The Universities and Private Vocational Schools Branch (PVS),Ministry of Advanced Education (in accordance with The Private Vocational SchoolsRegulation Act, 1995 (the Act) and The Private Vocational Schools Regulations,2014 (the Regulations)). The Ministry is responsible for approving and registering allinstructors in registered category 1 private vocational schools. For information onhow to register, contact the Ministry at (306) 787-5763.Please note: The curriculum submitted to PVS must still be reviewed and approvedby the SATCC for accreditation.Does the instructor(s) at an accredited school have to be a Journeyperson? Yes, as of January 15, 2014, an instructor of Skin Care is required to haveJourneyperson status as an Esthetician-Skin Care Technician and an instructor inNail Technology is required to have Journeyperson status as an Esthetician-NailTechnician. The instructors of these two trades are not interchangeable.
