About the SchoolHISTORYThe Founder, Laura Todd, has been offering continuing education to the esthetician, the medicalcommunity and related professions since the 1990s. In the spring of 2004, we were pleased toannounce the addition of the Comprehensive Esthetics School Programs to our consulting andcontinuing education division. The Institute of Advanced Medical Esthetics was established on July1, 2004 and Incorporated as LAT INC in 2005.SCHOOL OWNERSHIP AND INTERESTPowers, duties, and responsibilities: The governing board is the owner of the school.The Institute of Advanced Medical Esthetics is owned by LAT, Inc. Laura Todd maintains Onehundred percent interest. Ms. Todd has extensive experience in the industry; she helped developVirginia law and regulation for esthetics, is an author, and was appointed as Virginia’s first fullterm Esthetician Seat on the regulatory board for the state of Virginia. The school has an advisoryboard that assists with reviewing and responding to surveys, policies and procedures. AdmissionsADMISSIONSAdmission Requirements – 5/6/19For enrollment, all applicants must provide the school with copies of their high school diploma, G.E.D.certificate or equivalent, or high school transcripts showing high school completion, or transcript froma postsecondary institution, college or university (demonstrating two years of successful completiontoward a bachelor's degree), and an application to our Admissions Department. Students must be highschool graduates or the equivalent; i.e., G.E.D. holders, or provide a state certification of home-schoolcompletion, and be at least 18 years of age. If a student is a high school graduate or its equivalent, or ahome schooled student but is not 18 years old, they can still enroll. A student enrolling in the EstheticsInstructor course would also have to present a valid Esthetics license. A copy of their Driver’s licenseand Essay is also required. Applicant must have the required equipment and systems for online andlive class. Applicants will also be required to successfully complete an interview. Applicants to theMaster Esthetics Program must have a letter of recommendation from an Institute of AdvancedMedical Esthetics Instructor or an override from the school director.All foreign diploma must be translated and evaluated for US equivalency. A foreign diploma in Englishmust also be evaluated for US equivalency. For our files, we require copies of the official foreigndiploma or transcripts, a translation of the documents and the evaluation, stating that this documentis in fact equivalent to a United States High School Diploma. Students will be notified verbally at theiradmissions appointment if they have been accepted into the school. Students may be provisionallyaccepted if they do not have all paperwork completed. Students must submit all paperwork in within7 days of request or they will lose provisional admission acceptance.ORIENTATIONStudents will go through a pre orientation prior to enrollment to ensure they understand all policies,procedures, and disclosures associated with the school and industry. Students will sign for the receiptand understanding of such information.DIPLOMA VERIFICATIONAll high school diplomas must be verifiable. Acceptable documentation for checking the validity of astudent’s high school completion can include the following: the diploma and may require a finaltranscript that showing all courses taken or the judgment of the State Department of Education wherethe high school is located. A student’s self-certification is not sufficient to validate the high schooldiploma in question. If the institution has reason to believe that the high school diploma is not valid orwas not obtained from an entity that provides secondary school education (for instance, if the diplomaor transcript was bought or the student was required to perform little or no work), the institution willevaluate the validity of the student’s high school completion. There is no appeals process held by theInstitution or the Department of Education if the high school diploma is deemed invalid.TRANSFER CREDITSThe standards for awarding prior academic credit or course completion are as follows: The criteria fortransfer credit will be given where applicable. Transfer hours will be evaluated by the studentproviding a valid transcript, and by taking an examination. Transfer credits will be accepted on a case7

by-case basis after evaluation by staff and are not guaranteed. If a student wants to transfer toanother school, there is no guarantee the hours will transfer. As long as all financial obligations aremet, an official transcript will be provided at the student’s request. The school does not recruitstudents attending or admitted to another school offering similar programs of study.RE-ENTRY Students who withdraw prior to completion of the program will return in the samesatisfactory academic progress status as at the time of withdrawal, if the school approves re- entry.Program Schedule & Start DatesPROGRAM SCHEDULESchedule AddendumThe 600 hour Basic Esthetics or Master Esthetics program takes 24 weeks to complete if attendinga minimum of 25 hours per week with perfect attendance.Basic Esthetics & Master Esthetics Program Class Schedule - SCHEDULESunday 9:00 – 4:30 (7.5 hours) 4:30-5:30 (mandatory makeup hours for individuals who do not haveperfect attendance.) Monday 9:00 – 4:30 (7.5 hours) 4:30-5:30 (mandatory makeup hours forindividuals who do not have perfect attendance.) Online: 6.5 hour Core 3.5 hour IndependentModule. The school has a minimum attendance rule of no more than 4 total absences per program andzero absences during first four weeks of class.START & END DATESEnrollment will occur approximately every 4 weeks, as capacity allows. Paperwork is due 30 daysprior to start date. For the Esthetics Instructor course, this would only start if and when interest isexpressed in the course. Live & Online Class Computer RequirementsLive class computer requirements: Students will be required to have headphones and a laptop meeting the online system requirements listed below.TELECOMMUNICATIONS ACTIVITIES STATEMENT:Some of our programs use live and online combination hybrid formats to allow flexibility for thestudent. The portion of the programs that may be offered via distance education will be theorybased.ONLINE CLASS REQUIREMENTS & ONLINE SYSTEM TRAININGStudents are expected to have access to a computer, printer/scanner, computer with videocamera and the internet. They will also need to be able to successfully complete the onlineclass section of their program. Students need ability to access to ZOOM or similar platformas used by the school.Online classes will use the online course managment platform. Online classes will be offeredas asynchronous and may have synchronous components and will support regularsubstantive interaction between the students and the instructor. Students will have accessto the online instructor Matt England by phone (804)346-1979 or by email m throughout the week during normalbusiness hours of Monday through Sunday 9am to 5:30 pm, unless the online platform isclosed for the day.Students are provided training related to online classes during “intro to online class”.Demonstration of minimum computer skills through prior coursework or during orientationsuch as logging into our online system and navigating freely must be observed in order forthe student to meet the criteria to participate in online classes. All large file PDF submissions must be compressed prior to emailing usingwww.pdfcompressor.com or a similar software.Graduation & Employment AssistanceGRADUATION REQUIREMENTSIn order for students to receive graduate status and receive a diploma, they must havetaken and passed all practical and theory exams for online topics, completed all contractedhours, and performed all of their service requirements by the program completion date. Agrade point average of 75% or higher is required to graduate from the program. Tuition and feesmust have been paid in full. All payments must be paid in full prior to the school releasing anytranscripts or diplomas or verification of training for licensure or other documents. 85% on allparts of finals are required.For ability to examine paperwork to be released, (paperwork enables the student to sit for stateboard examination), a score of 85% or greater must be achieved on the school's written andpractical mock state board exams as well as having met all other financial and graduationrequirements. Signup for the exams must be done with the appropriate staff. The schoolrequires that payments must be paid in full prior to the school releasing any school documents,official transcripts, certificates of completion, or verification of training paperwork to enable thestudent to sit for the state board examination. Transcripts will be released providing that allpayments have been met. Transcripts will note graduation date or last date of attendance if thestudent has not graduated.STUDENT TRACKING AFTER GRADUATIONThe Student agrees to provide the school with information regarding the student’s employmentimmediately after graduation, at six months after graduation and one year after graduation viaemail to the registrar. Information should include: Name of business, address, number andcontact at the place of employment.EMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCEJob and career placement assistance is available to any graduate who has successfullygraduated. The school cannot and does not promise or guarantee employment to anyone. Theschool maintains a list of potential employers and the names of resources with additionalinformation on job listings.Licensing InformationLICENSING REQUIREMENTS AND RECIPROCITY12

To become licensed to practice esthetics in Virginia, students must complete state mandatedtraining and pass the Virginia Esthetics licensure examination. Students are responsible for anyfees associated with the state board examination and licensure. The entity responsible for stateboard examinations is PSI.Students must fill out the required DPOR forms & applications and pay the required fees.On the above listed website you will find the following: Candidate Information Bulletin - that provides the supplies needed for your state boardexamination, site conduct at the testing center, policies and procedures and fees for theexamination, theory and practical subject for which you are responsible. Students mustassemble their kit in the required format with the required supplies and demonstratepractical skills as well as pass a theory examination. Practical test scripts. Exam location & Exam Dates. DPOR forms & application.Virginia licenses Basic Esthetics and Master Esthetics, as well as Esthetics Instructor. There is nolicense as a laser technician 2 or medical esthetician 3 in Virginia as of 2015. To apply forreciprocity, you must directly contact the state you intend to move to directly.Program InformationPROGRAMS OF STUDYThe programs will follow the Virginia guidelines for licensure and offer a Basic Esthetics,Master Esthetics and Esthetics Instructor. Distance education modules of applicableprograms will be offered via an online course management system by Moodle for the theoryportions of the program. Basic Esthetics & Master Esthetics programs will be offeredasynchronously and may include synchronous components. A student must complete the required studies aswell as pass written and practical examinations before graduating. This is a hybrid coursewith 240 hours (40%) completed via distance education. Basic Esthetics Program Outline / SyllabusBASIC ESTHETICS600 HOURSIf you are attending 25 hours a week it will take you 24 weeks to graduate.DESCRIPTION:A study of systematic and scientifically applied principals of skin care in theory, concept andapplication, including but not limited to anatomy and physiology of the skin disorders anddiseases, skin types and conditions, basic and corrective facial treatments, makeup, bodytreatments, hair removal, facial massage techniques, business basics, effective retailing andcommunication skills and all required components of 18 VAC 41-70-190. The school will useBasic & Advanced Esthetic Textbooks from Milady publishing and additional schoolgenerated content to meet the curriculum requirements. Curriculum and hours ofinstruction requirements are as noted in 18 VAC 41-70-200 for Theory & Practicalperformance requirements.OBJECTIVES:Our objectives are to direct the student toward developing desirable work habits andattitudes with respect to health, sanitation and safety; to encourage self-reliance, readinessto assist others and an ethical approach to this profession; and prepare them for statelicensure. The school makes no guarantees on any employment opportunities or earningpotentials.COURSE FORMAT:Students are taught through lectures, demonstrations, audio-visual aids and studentparticipation including workshops and clinic practice.
