The scholarships are awarded on the recommendation of theColleges to home postgraduate students (with a preference for Glaswegians) undertaking a taught or research masters' degreeprogramme. Awarded annually to home postgraduate students undertaking a taught masters degree course in the College ofArts or Social Sciences. The Bursaries are intended to benefit students whose financial needs are not met from public sources. CAMERON Prize in History (see note) 49The Cameron Prize in History was founded in 1964 by a group of members of the University who joined the Sixth Battalion of theCameron Highlanders when it was raised in 1914. The prize is open to all undergraduate members of the University.The prize will be awarded for an essay of not more than 5,000 words on a subject that falls within the field of War in History and HumanSociety, the precise title to be approved by the Professor of Modern History. The prize will be advertised at the beginning of WhitsunTerm and the essay is to be submitted by 1 October. The award of the prize will be determined by a Sub-Committee of the Head ofHistory under the Convenership of the Head of the School. In the event of no essay being submitted or if the Sub-Committee, as is itsright, decides to make no award, the prize may be awarded to the most outstanding dissertation falling within the same field examinedin History Honours at the following diet. The prize may be divided if there should be two submissions of equal merit.CAPPELL Award445Founded in 1967 by Daniel Fowler Cappell, Professor of Pathology 1945-67. The award was established for the best dissertation givingevidence of independent study or research submitted by a student reading for the degree of MB ChB. In 1849 William Rae Wilson, undergraduate in Arts 1785, LLD 1844, founded a medal to beawarded to a Divinity student for the best essay on the life of Christ.The foundations are now regulated by Ordinance 97. The Cleland Medals and Prizes are awarded annually to the most distinguishedstudent in the Ordinary class of Physics.
