I gave it a look over and asked if I couldborrow it when he was finished. For some reason itlooked familiar to me. A week and a half later I was going through my shelves of books (I promised myself to domore reading) and low and behold, here was this book! Iscanned the cover and emailed it to him to let him know Ialready had it. Then began to read it immediately. If you have ever wanted the big picture regarding the Bible, this is the book to get. It is very easy to read and laysout God’s plan wonderfully. It all centers around theword ‘covenant.’ It defines the word and lays out God’stimeless plan by making a covenant with his people. Icannot recommend this book enough. For more information, please call the office 559-226-1163.The OLV Parish officewill be closedMonday, January 20th,for Martin Luther King, Jr. DayLa oficina de la parroquia estará cerradael Lunes, 20 de Enero 2020.Por el Natalicio de Martín Luther King, Jr.Wedding Banns / AmonéstacionesPatricia AcostaandJaime A. 6Iglesia Católica Nuestra Señora de Las Victorias - Fresno, CaliforniaOLV Parishioners – with the Immaculate Conception Holyday justearlier this month – please read the following. Thanks – Deacon KurtA Biblical Defense of the Immaculate ConceptionBy Lucas R. PolliceLucas Pollice is the director of Adult Catechesisand RCIA for the Diocese of Fort Worth, Texas. He hastaught RCIA for over ten years and is a regular speaker atcatechetical conferences. He is the author of Open Widethe Doors to Christ: Discovering Catholicism. If you ask people, including many Catholics, aboutthe Immaculate Conception, there is a great chance theywill tell you that it is the conception of Jesus in the wombof Mary. The Immaculate Conception is actually theconception of Mary. The Immaculate Conception reveals tous that Mary was freed from the stain of original sin at themoment of her conception, and remained free from sin forher entire life.It was intrinsic to God’s plan of salvation that Marywas created without original sin. Since Adam and Everepresented all of the human family when they fell awayfrom God, all of humanity fell away with them. Original sinwas passed on to their children and to their children’schildren, all throughout human history. When weare conceived we are born into a natural separation fromGod called original sin and with an inclination toward sin.God’s rescue plan was to have His only Son, thesecond Person of the Holy Trinity, assume a human natureso that as both God and man Jesus could accomplish theredemption of the human race. One problem arises: God isall-holy. Therefore, He is in complete and total opposition tosin. Sinners cannot even come into His presence withoutbeing purified. How then would God the Son be able tointimately join Himself with a fallen human nature? This iswhere God’s plan for Mary comes in. God chose her to beconceived without original sin so that she would be able togive Jesus a pure and sinless human nature. Mary is the pureand stainless vessel through which Jesus receives a sinlessand immaculate human nature so that He can enter theworld to complete the Father’s plan of salvation.Let us go back to the Book of Genesis where Godannounced for the first time His plan of salvation that willbe accomplished through Christ: "I will put enmity betweenyou and the woman, and between your offspring and hers;He will strike at your head, while you strike at hisheel." (Gen 3:15)It is important that we identify exactly who God isaddressing and talking about. God is speaking to theserpent, and He says that the offspring of the woman willstrike at his head. Who is the one who will strike at thehead of the serpent? Jesus is the one who will come, strikeat Satan’s head, and destroy his power. So if the offspringof the woman is Jesus, then the woman must be Mary.God speaks of enmity between the serpent and thewoman, and between the serpent’s offspring and thewoman’s offspring. The offspring of Satan is sin, with whichSatan desires to multiply and fill the earth. Therefore, there is enmity between Mary/Jesus and Satan/sin. Enmitymeans total and complete opposition. If two things are inenmity with each other, they have nothing at all to do withone another; there is absolutely no cooperation orcommunion between the two. Consequently, both Jesus andMary are completely opposed to Satan and sin. They wouldhave absolutely no cooperation or communion with Satan andsin. It was necessary that Mary not have a fallennature since any participation in Original Sin or actual sinwould destroy the enmity with Satan and sin.
