The film followsMunk in 2020, at age 95, as he returned to Auschwitz-Birkenauconcentration and extermination camp, one of the camps where hewas held prisoner during World War II. The trip was his last chanceto honor 30 of his close relatives, including his parents, who weremurdered there.Follow the journey of Holocaust survivors in New York’s HudsonValley as they collaborate with local songwriters to create andperform in a live concert of inspirational songs reflecting theirHolocaust experiences in We Remember: Songs of Survivors(Wednesday, April 27 at 9pm). The resulting songs created duringthis unique six-month collaboration tell stories of unimaginableloss and incredible survival, and at the same time are filled withjoy and healing, celebrating the extraordinary lives of this resilientgeneration and the power of the human spirit. In the last store in a defunct shopping mall, 91-year-old SoniaWarshawski — great-grandmother, businesswoman, and Holocaustsurvivor — runs the tailor shop she has owned for more than 30years. But when she is served an eviction notice, the specter ofretirement prompts Sonia to resist her harrowing past as a refugeeand witness to genocide. A poignant story of generational traumaand healing, Big Sonia (Wednesday, April 27 at 10pm) also offers alaugh-out-loud-funny portrait of the power of love to triumph overbigotry, and the power of truth-telling to heal us all.WE’RE EXPANDING OUR REACH!Exciting news for fans of WLIW-FM, Long Island’s only NPR Station!
