Our previousname, Tamarack Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center, was quite amouthful and hard to fit on forms, signs, our logo, and so forth. Of course, ourtwo-fold mission of rehabilitation and education remains the same; we just aren’ttrying to cram it into our name anymore. We treated a total of 885 patients during 2018. This is a significant increaseover 2017’s total of 599. Read more about the patients in the next few pages. Asignificant component of the increase was our increased capacity to admit and treatyoung mammals, especially eastern cottontails and opossums. A big factor in our ability to treat more patients was our hiring of additionalstaff to assist our Executive Director/Licensed Wildlife Rehabilitator, CarolHolmren. The new positions include: Wildlife Rehabilitation Manager, overseeing patient care and volunteers. Office Manager (part time). Tamarack continued to work with Architect and Planner Robert Humphreysin preparation for making improvements to our facilities. Although work wasdelayed due to health problems early in the year, by the end of December a lot ofprogress was made. Site planning and building design work was in full swing as ofthe end of 2018.As always, I want to thank everyone who has contributed to the success ofTamarack this year. Our board members are wonderful, the staff work miracles,and the volunteers do so much (check out those total hours!). Tamarack is verymuch a community with participation from so many people who care aboutwildlife. It really does take a village, and we are grateful to all of those who supportthis work, through their time on the phone, their time at the center, their willingnessto drive injured animals to us, or their financial contributions.
