CEO’s MessageCOTA NT is thrilled once again to publishthe annual NT Seniors Card BusinessDiscount Directory for 2022-23. As mostseniors would be aware, COTA NT deliversand manages this program on behalf ofTerritory Families. Our new Seniors CardManager, Kim Farrar has worked veryhard on procuring new business for thedirectory and we are delighted to saythat we now have over 470 businesseslisted in the directory.With the current cost of living skyrocketing,now is the ideal time to utilise this directory.We appreciate that it is extremely difficultfor not just seniors, but families throughoutthe Territory with spiralling rent, food,and normal everyday necessities and wehope that this directory can direct youtowards the Territory businesses that offerseniors a discount.Just a reminder that that Seniors Card canbe used to access free public bus travel andprovide a discount on your MV registration.As we all know, it has been difficult forbusinesses with COVID lockdowns and staffshortages, but the spirit of our businesscommunity is alive and well and continuesto grow and, with over 30,000 seniors inthe Territory, this is an ideal opportunityfor seniors to support their local businesscommunity. It is part of anAustralia-wide initiative. Many businesses will provide a SeniorsCard discount even if they are not listedas a business partner, just ask.Applicants must sign a declaration on theapplication form stating that they: Are 60 years of age or older. Are a permanent resident of theNorthern Territory. For Motor Vehicle Registration All NT Seniors Card holders receive a 55annual discount on their motor vehicleregistration. When you receive yourSeniors Card, contact your local motorvehicle registration office to provide yourSeniors Card number, this will be placedon file and the discount can be appliedwhen you pay your annual registration.Interstate and Overseas You can use your NT Seniors Card fordiscounted fares on most interstate publictransport in Australia and New Zealand.Every jurisdiction has different rules.Check before you travel. Many participating businesses acceptSeniors Cards from interstate. However,it is at their discretion and you shouldalways check first. Please see furtherinformation on page 6. In New Zealand, the Super Gold programis linked to the Australian Seniors CardProgram. This means that most businesseswill accept Australia Seniors Cards. It is worth taking your Seniors Card withyou when travelling overseas. It is oftenaccepted by businesses internationally asa matter of goodwill. Travelling Interstate?All Seniors Card members are generally entitled to public transport concessions in capitalcities in Australia. The discount provided and the ticketing systems vary in each state andterritory so it is best to check with the local public transport provider or the Seniors Cardoffice listed below.
