All “verified” instances of plagiarism will be documented andreferred to the school administrator. Any “verified” first offense of this policy – whether intentionalor unintentional –will result in a grade of zero (0) for theassignment. The teacher will provide a second chanceopportunity for the student to correct the assignment andlearn from the mistake. The teacher has discretion, given thenature of this offense, to remove the zero and grade the newlysubmitted project or, where this first offense is clearlyintentional, to assign the lowest possible passing grade forthis assignment. A second “verified” offense is deemed intentional. Thatsecond offense will result in the following:o An automatic and irrevocable zero (0) for theassignment.o A referral to the school administrator with arecommendation for school discipline that mayinclude a suspension from school.o A requirement that the assignment be resubmitted inconformity with the guidelines established herein. A third “verified” offense of this policy will result in thefollowing:o A referral to the Council Rock School DistrictAcademic Integrity Committee. the testimony of both teacher and student. A findingof the Academic Integrity Committee of a verifiedthird violation of this policy may include, among otherconsequences, a failure for the marking period for thecourse in which the violation occurred and/or arecommendation to the school administrator forfurther school discipline.CAREER EDUCATIONCareer Education has programs available that may be of interest tomany students, including Co-Op Work Experience. Qualified studentsmay be excused up to three periods per day to engage in a job outsideof school. See your counselor for further information.CRSD STUDENT ASSESSMENT POSITIONCouncil Rock School District recognizes the need for regular studentassessment. Assessment can take many forms: class work, homework, reports, projects, student writing, student performance, quizzes, teacher made tests, department/district test, mid-term andfinal exams, and standardized tests. All student work is available to parents. However, for reasons of testintegrity and expense, certain tests will not be sent home. Examplesinclude department/district tests, mid-term and final exams, andidentified student work that will be maintained for student portfolios.Parents through parent-teacher contact may access these items.FINAL EXAMSFinal exams have been developed for all subjects. Exams take placeat the end of the second marking period for semester courses, andduring the last three (half) days of school in June.Finals count as 25% of the last marking period grade and not onlyafford good experience for those going on to college, but they alsoserve as a culminating learning/assessment experience in each class.Seniors receiving an “A” in a course may be exempt from taking thefinal exam.Requests for re-scheduling final exams will only be considered forstudents encountering extenuating circumstances from taking theirfinal exams at the regularly scheduled time. Early employment orvacations are not acceptable circumstances, which wouldwarrant the rescheduling of an exam. In all cases, the request mustbe submitted to the grade level principal by the end of May. Exams18

may not be taken before the regularly scheduled date, and the rescheduled date for the exam can be no later than June 30, 2022.GRADINGThere will be four marking periods for a year course with a fifth gradeas the final grade. Semester courses will have two marking periodswith a third grade as the final grade. Each marking period will bedistinct from each other marking period with an assigned gradereflecting only that period’s scholastic achievement. All high school courses will use the letter grade system, A, B, C, D, F,IN, NG, W, WD, WF unless the principal approves an alternate gradingsystem.19

A marking periodfailure in a semester course or multiple marking period failures in a fullyear or alternate day course may impact the final grade calculation.20

Occasionally, a numerical average is not the best indication of astudent’s progress. The teacher’s subjective judgment is considereda valid element in student evaluation. The teacher, to more accuratelyrepresent the student’s achievement, therefore, may adjust the finalgrade. The adjustment can be made in either of the following ways:A higher final grade – is given which more accurately represents astudent’s achievement than the average marking period grade.A lower final grade – is given which more accurately represents astudent’s achievement than the average marking period grade. Awritten explanation will be provided.GRADE POINT AVERAGEThe procedure for the computation of Grade Point Average is asfollows:1. All letter grades are converted to a numerical weight as defined:A 4B 3C 2D 1F 02. Grade points for each course are determined by multiplying twofactors: the numerical weight of the final grade and the credit value.3. GPA for each year is determined by dividing the total of coursegrade points by the total of attempted credits.4. At the end of each school year, GPA is computed and is cumulativebeginning with grade 9.GPA GUIDELINESWeighted GPA is calculated for students using the following erated4.23.42.41.20All Others4.03.02.01.0021
