JOB DESCRIPTIONPOST:Director of Clinical ServicesGRADE:Band 8BACCOUNTABLE TO:Trustee BoardRESPONSIBLE TO:Chief Executive OfficerBASE:Helen & Douglas HouseDBS CHECK:Enhanced & BarredJOB SUMMARY:As a member of the Executive Team, provide consistent, robust and expert clinical advice to the Boardof Trustees, the Chief Executive and Director colleagues of the Charity.The post holder is responsible for the development and delivery of clinical services which are bothsustainable, safe and reflective of the charitable objectives, the organisational strategy and enhancingthe reputation of Helen & Douglas House.MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Clinical and Strategic ResponsibilitiesTo be responsible and accountable for the clinical care provided by Helen & Douglas House.To lead the development of effective clinical governance within the organisation, including clinicalaudit, complaints management, policy writing and other quality assurance measures across the entireorganisation.To provide operational leadership to the clinical care team and act as a role model.To take on the role of Accountable Officer for controlled drugs and Caldicott Guardian for theorganisationTo raise the profile of Helen & Douglas House as a learning organisation amongst healthcareprofessionals and organizations, providing the highest standards of care and opportunities for sharedlearning and development.To ensure that effective systems are in place to continuously review and eval uate services and to planfor improvements in relation to the Care Quality Commission Inspections.

As the Registered Manager, to lead on the preparation, planning and completion of the ProviderInformation return for Care Quality Commission.To develop an effective network with other agencies providing care for children and young people withlife limiting conditions and their families and supporters.To effectively manage any direct line reportsTo represent the Clinical Directorate in plans related to fundraising and public relations.To represent the Clinical Service of Helen & Douglas House at local and national events when required.To take the lead role for clinical risk management, ensuring that policies and practices comply withlegislation and quality standards.To be responsible for the workforce planning for the clinical directorate, including recruitment,selection and retentions of the multidisciplinary team; delegated to individual managers whereappropriate.To take the lead in medicines management, delegating aspects as appropriate.To ensure ongoing evaluation of the care services, facilitating user involvement.To manage the budgets in the clinical directorate, participating in regular meeting and the annualplanning cycle when budgets are set and the financial performance of the organisation is reviewed.To work as a member of the executive team participating in organizational decision making and criticalanalysis of issues and to provide support and advice to staff in other directorates when required.Training and DevelopmentTo take managerial responsibility for the professional education and development of all clinical staff.To ensure that appropriate structures are in place to provide staff with access to personaldevelopment including further educational opportunities.To facilitate a culture of learning throughout the clinical directorate ensuring the delivery of safe andevidence-based care at all times.To make strategic links with education providers such as Oxford Brookes University.To ensure that there is an effective clinical supervision in place for all staff.To take responsibility to approve and monitor any research which is conducted in the organisation.To ensure all nursing and medical staff complete revalidation as required to enable them to continuepracticing in their professions.ProfessionalTo develop personal and professional knowledge through critical self -appraisal, clinical supervision,networking with other health professionals, and attendance at relevant courses and conferences.To ensure Health and Safety procedures are adhered to and that the directorate staff are aware of andobserve safety rules; fire procedures and drills, internal security; data security and incident andreporting procedures.

To maintain current registration and revalidation with the Nursing and Midwifery CouncilTo abide by the Nursing and Midwifery Council published Code of Conduct.To carry out any other duties which are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the j ob as requested bythe Chief Executive. To maintain current registration with your professional body. To ensure that yourstatutory professional updating and educational requirements are maintained andprovide proof of renewed registration when this is due. To abide by your profession’spublished Code of Conduct; any breach of this Code of Conduct will be regarded as adisciplinary offence.
