You are welcome toconsider ANY university and/or major; you are not limited to our list. Support: One-unit Shasta College Student Development (STU) classesFour one-unit Shasta College STU classes, taken concurrently with your bachelor’sdegree program, are what define the BOLD student support program. They aredesigned to help you adjust to your new university and develop your careerpathway. The classes are:o STU 40: Getting Connected to Your Universityo STU 41: Career Focuso STU 44: Career Worksite Readinesso STU 45: Success in Graduate/Professional SchoolThese classes will also allow you to connect with other local students (see BOLDCohorts below) and access Shasta College campus resources: computer labs, thelibrary, tutoring and learning centers, high speed internet, the health center, andmore. Shasta College can continue to be your physical academic “home.” Connections: BOLD CohortsPursuing your educational goals can be lonely, especially if you are doing onlinestudies. The STU classes will allow you to connect with other students who arecompleting their bachelor’s degrees. This group will act as a support system for youas you work towards your goal. To participate in BOLD1. Review information from the first page of this packet and the BOLD website. If youhave any questions about the program, contact the BOLD Office in room 784 on themain Shasta College campus in Redding (530-242-7676).2. If you are interested in being part of the BOLD student support program (i.e., taking theSTU classes at Shasta College concurrently with your university studies), please makesure that you are an active student in the Shasta College system and have submitteda FAFSA/CCPG (formerly BOG Fee Waiver) application for Shasta College.a. If you were never a Shasta College student before, you must apply online toShasta College at www.ShastaCollege.edu/NewStudentsi. The Shasta College BOLD Counselor will exempt you from other newstudent steps such as orientation and assessment.b. Financial Aid:i. The Shasta College Foundation is paying the unit fee and campus fee forthe first 100 BOLD students for the Student Development classes. However,we are asking that students apply for the FAFSA/CCPG (formerly BOG FeeWaiver) application to see if they qualify for the CCPG (this helps preserveShasta College Foundation funds for other efforts).3. Meet with our BOLD Counselor to determine your transfer readiness for your intendedbachelor’s degree institution. Call 530-242-7676 to make an appointment withRebecka Renfer.a. If you have never attended Shasta College before, you must apply online to ShastaCollege before this appointment.b. Rebecka may determine that you also need to speak with an advisor at yourintended university to determine your preparedness for your specific major.4. The earlier you turn in your BOLD Intake Form and Statement of Understanding (last 2pages of this packet), the better we can help you prepare for your transfer.Financial Aid1. For Shasta College BOLD Student Development (STU) classes:a. Submit the CA College Promise Grant (CCPG – formerly BOG Fee Waiver)application and a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the yearyou intend to start www.shastacollege.edu/FA (links to CCPG and FAFSA).b. List Shasta College on your FAFSA.2. For your university:a. List your university on the FAFSA (in addition to Shasta College).b. Follow up with your university’s financial aid process on your university portal.c. All financial aid for your university coursework will be handled by your university’sfinancial aid office.d. If you are confused about your university Financial Aid, you can ask for help fromthe BOLD Office.
