The Title IV Programs covered by this law are: Federal Pell Grants,Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, Federal Direct Student Loansand Federal Direct PLUS loans. A specific formula is used to determine the amount of Title IV Program assistanceearned, when a student withdraws or is terminated during a period of enrollment.(An example is provided below.) If less assistance was received than earned, you maybe able to receive those additional funds. If you received more assistance thanearned, the excess funds must be returned by the School and/or you.Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts- BoulderStudent Consumer InformationReviewed/ Revised June 20228

AESCA is required to determine the amount of Title IV funds that must be refundedbased upon the percentage of the payment period completed prior to withdrawing.Title IV funds must be returned to the program based upon a tuition refund or if thestudent received an overpayment based upon costs not incurred but for which TitleIV was received. These refunds must be madewithin forty-five (45) of thedetermination of the date AESCA determines the student withdrew or 14 days afterthe students last day of attendance. Title IV funds are returned in the followingorder:Unsubsidized Direct Stafford loans (other than PLUS loans).Subsidized Direct Stafford loans.Federal Perkins loans.Federal PLUS loans.Direct PLUS loans.Federal Pell Grants for which a return of funds is required.Academic Competitiveness Grants for which a return of funds is required.National Smart Grants for which a return of funds is required.Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG) for whicha return offunds is required.10. Federal Teach Grants for which a Return is required.1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8.9. If a student does not receive all the funds earned, they may be due a post-withdrawaldisbursement. If the post-withdrawal disbursement includes loan funds, AESCA mustget the student’s permission before disbursement. The student may choose todecline some or all the loan funds, to avoid incurring additional debt. AESCA mayautomatically use all of a portion of your post-withdrawal disbursement of grantfunds for tuition and fees. AESCA needs the student’s permission to use the postwithdrawal grant disbursement for all other School charges. If the student does notgrant their permission, the funds will be offered to the student, and the student willbe responsible for unpaid debt to the School. Some Title IV funds that are scheduled cannot be disbursed after a studentwithdraws. A first- time, first-year undergraduate student who has not completed 30days of a Program before withdrawal, will not receive any loan funds that they wouldhave received had they remained enrolled past the 30th day. AESCA must return a portion of excess Title IV Program funds received equal to the lesser of:oThe student’s institutional charges multiplied by the unearned percentage of funds, oroThe entire amount of excess funds. If AESCA is not required to return all of the excess funds, the student is requiredto return theremaining funds. Any loan funds that are required to be returned must be paid in accordance withthe terms ofthe promissory note. Any amount of unearned grant funds that must be returned are called anoverpayment. The maximum amount of a grant overpayment that the student mustrepay is half of the grant funds received or were scheduled to receive. The studentmust make arrangements with AESCA or the Department of Education to return theunearned grant funds.Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary
