Giving Back in Memory of a Loving Father“We decided as a family to honor the memory of our parentsthrough contributions to the Parents’ Fund. We feel thatFr. Garanzini has set really high standards and goals for theUniversity and that our parents would want to be partners.”—Danita Pacelli SchmidtRocco Pacelli, beloved husband of the late Grace (neeSacco) and loving father of four children Anthony,Danita, Richard (BS ’76, DDS ’82) and Marianne trulybelieved in the importance of higher education, especiallya Loyola degree. Rocco, a highly decorated Captain inthe U.S. Army WWII, completed a high school education, butalways taught his children the importance ofcontinuing education, especially college and advancedcollege degrees. Both Rocco and his wife Grace became involved in LoyolaUniversity Chicago Parents’ Association in the early 1980swhen their son, Richard attended Loyola. “Since neither ofthem attended college they always wanted their childrento have a college education. They truly embodied Loyola’smission and became involved in the Loyola Parents’Association being wonderful ambassadors for many years.”They also became very active in fundraising for the Schoolof Nursing to raise additional support from parents toprovide financial assistance to Loyola nursing students.Fr. John Reilly, S.J., who worked on the parents programduring that time, remembers both Rocco and Grace’sinvolvement as parents. “They were good workers for theParents Associates programs and charming, always with asmile,” said Fr. Reilly. Why support theParents’ Fund? The Parents’ Fund offers parents anopportunity to make a targeted investmentin the services and programs at Loyola.Your investment will not only supportyour student, but will increase the valueof your student’ degree by enhancingthe quality education andundergraduate experience. When you make a gift to the Parents’ Fund(back row) Rocco, Grace, and Father John Reilly, S.J. pose with members of theParents’ Association at an annual event at the Drake hotel.“I realized and understood from them how important anadvanced education really helped me and now, my children. We hope that this contribution will assist Loyola’s Parents’Association in their quest to assist young men and women inattending such a fine, respected university as Loyola.”you are also making a statement that yousupport the education your son or daughteris receiving at Loyola.
