Significance of the Nursing PinIn the mid-to-late 1800s, pins were used to differentiate medical and nursingpersonnel from their layman counterparts in times of war. The nursing pinningceremony has evolved into a time-honored celebratory tradition thatacknowledges the accomplishments of nursing graduates and symbolicallywelcomes them into the nursing profession.Shown on the cover, the College’s nursing pin features notable symbolscharacteristic of its graduates. The College seal, the outline of the city ofCleveland and the State of Ohio seal symbolize growth and continued progress.Together, the torch and telstar represent perseverance, determination, learningand communication. Lastly, the nuclear energy symbol represents research andmodern technology. These characteristics combined are the embodiment of theTri-C nursing graduate. Finally, the color apricot is representative of the academic discipline of nursing. For this reason, an apricot rose is presented to each nursing graduate to furtherhonor their accomplishments.2
