INSTALLATIONSurface PreparationSee Data Sheet 36589.5, How To InstallSPECTRALOCK 1 Pre-Mixed Grout, for detailedinstallation instructions. This document is availableonline at www.laticrete.com. Please note that workingtime is affected by many variables including surface androom temperatures. Warmer climates, for example, willshorten curing & working time, while colder conditionswill extend the cure time. Do not add water or any othermaterials to the grout mixture. This will have an adverseeffect on the product and void all warranties. Prior togrouting, apply SPECTRALOCK 1 to a small area toensure the product will not stain. Clean-up is critical.Prepare for the initial and final washes by having pails ofclean water ready for the clean-up process.ApplicationNOTE: After surfaces are cleaned, allow to drythoroughly before grouting. Spread grout using a sharp edged, firm rubber groutfloat. Work the grout diagonally across the joints, packing them full. “Cut” excess grout off the tile surface using the edgeof the float held at a 90 angle like a squeegee, stroking diagonally to avoid pulling grout out of filledjoints.CleaningData Sheets are subject to change without notice. NOTE: Have clean water, new clean sponge, nylonscrub pad (doodlebug) and clean microfiber towel ready. Once grout has been spread, wait approximately 5-10minutes before cleaning (or within an “arms-length” ofwhat has been spread). Wait slightly longer at coldertemperatures. Submerge clean sponge into water and wring until thesponge is moist but not dripping with water. Puttingtoo much water on the grout joints could affect thecure time and appearance of grout joints. Change water every 50 ft² (4.6 m²). Wipe grout joints and tile surface in a light circularmotion, loosening grout residue while keeping thejoints smooth and full. Drag a clean sponge diagonally over the scrubbedsurfaces to remove any remaining grout residue. For best results, we recommend to rinse sponge afterevery final pass; use each side of sponge only oncebetween rinsing. Check work as you clean. If necessary, repair any lowspots with additional grout.WALL APPLICATIONSInstead of a sponge, the use of a damp, well wrung, folded terry cloth towel can be helpful to remove excessgrout while smoothing joints less than 1/8" (3 mm) onwalls. Use light pressure when using folded terry clothtowel.FINAL INSPECTION AND CLEANING Begin final cleaning when grout joints are hard to thetouch, depending upon the size of the grout joint andthe ambient temperature. Smaller grout joints (1/16”(1.6mm) or 1/8” (3.2mm)) would take less time to startto clean, approx. 45 min. For larger grout joints (3/8”(9.5 mm)) we recommend waiting about 1 hour toensure the grout joints are hard and cannot bedisturbed with the second cleaning. Use only clean water and simply dunk the nylon scrubpad (doodlebug) in the water and let all the water pourout – it should be nearly dry and then start to break upthe grout haze left from the initial wash on the surfaceof the tiles. Rinse scrub pad frequently, letting all water escapebefore continuing to clean. Then, use a clean cloth to the scrubbed surfaces toremove any residue. Allow cleaned areas to dry and inspect tile/stonesurface. If haze remains on the tiles the following day, it can bebuffed off the using a nylon scrub pad (doodlebug). Make certain to check tile surface with adequatelighting after the tile surface is dry. Conduct a test area to verify results on polishedstones. Rinse with clean water and allow surface to dry.Inspect grout surface and repair as required with freshgrout. For ANY area that will later receive intermittent waterexposure, allow area to cure 24 hours. Protect finished surface from traffic for at least 12hours at 70 F (21 C).F.7.3.12 - 0315 Do not expose grout to acid cleaners for 7 days. Allow grout to cure for 10 days at 70 F (21 C) prior touse in submerged applications or steam rooms.See LATICRETE Technical Data Sheet 192 for moreinformation on grouting of ceramic tile in submergedinstallations. For use with our SPECTRALOCK Dazzle Pleasefollow these instructions to use with any color in theSPECTRALOCK 1 Pre-Mixed Grout: Obtain a 1 gal (3.8 L) bucket of SPECTRALOCK 1Pre-Mixed Grout and an empty 1 gal (3.8 L) bucket. With a margin trowel – take approx. 1/2 of the materialwithin the SPECTRALOCK 1 Pre-Mixed Grout bucketand place within the empty bucket. Then in the center of each bucket create a small holewith a margin trowel. Open the Dazzle (any color) and proceed to place 1/2of the jar within each bucket inside the small holes inthe center of each bucket. Next, take a good scoop of SPECTRALOCK 1 PreMixed Grout and cover the Dazzle in the hole veryslowly and gently (this helps to mitigate the Dazzlefrom dispersing in the air and out of the bucket). Then proceed to mix by hand (It is not recommendedusing any drills to mix the SPECTRALOCK 1 PreMixed Grout since that would help to incorporate moreair in the mixture – potentially speed up thecure/setting process). Thoroughly mix the dazzle and disperse throughoutthe bucket. Once each bucket has been mixed extensively andthe Dazzle seems to be dispersed evenly within eachbucket – then add the other 1/2 gal (1.9 L) back intothe original bucket. Now you are ready to grout or reseal the original bucketto keep the SPECTRALOCK 1 from skimming over &curing.6.
