Join us Sunday, January 19th from 1-4pm as we venture into the wardrobe. Here’s why:In Revelation 5:5 you can read about the Lion of Judah. We sing praise songs about the Lion andthe Lamb. Each example is referring to Jesus.“A concerned mother once wrote C. S. Lewis on behalf of her son, Laurence, who, having readThe Chronicles of Narnia, became concerned that he loved Aslan more than Jesus. In hisresponse, Lewis offered this relief:Laurence can't really love Aslan more than Jesus, even if he feels that's what he is doing. For thethings he loves Aslan for doing or saying are simply the things Jesus really did and said. So thatwhen Laurence thinks he is loving Aslan, he is really loving Jesus: and perhaps loving Him morethan he ever did before.”I understand these feelings completely because they were my own also when I first saw a PBSmovie of this book at the age of 8. After reading the 7 books in the series I saw the parallels toscripture. My faith grew and my hunger to know God grew. THIS is why I choose to share Narniawith others. C.S. Lewis, in his second book has Aslan the lion explain this to the children as theyare returning to their world.“It isn't Narnia, you know," sobbed Lucy. "It's you. We shan't meet you there. And how can welive, never meeting you?""But you shall meet me, dear one," said Aslan."Are -are you there too, Sir?" said Edmund."I am," said Aslan. "But there I have another name. You must learn to know me by that name. Thiswas the very reason why you were brought to Narnia, that by knowing me here for a little, you mayknow me better there.”In our real world, Jesus came to provide a way to have a relationship with God and is our way toheaven through salvation. C.S. Lewis cautions not to spell this truth out to children too directly, but to nurture their understanding as it develops. That is the plan as we promote reading the book The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe and holdan afternoon of activities exploring themes of the book in a VBS style. Time together will beginwith worship followed by 2 stations of activities. Snack will be a third station involving everyoneand then watching the movie from 2005. Because of the intense themes and some scenes of themovie we are offering this event to fourth through eighth graders. High school age youth maychoose to participate with the children and youth activities or with the adult discussion group.Copies of the books are available for 1 while supplies last.Sign-ups are in the vestibule, so we have enough supplies.Snow date will be January 26th 1-4pm.
