TRENDSAIR FILTRATION PRODUCTSKentucky 40223A Trusted Leader and Partner in Clean Air SolutionsAt AAF, we understand the importance of clean air.“We inhale over 3,500 gallons of air each day.”While we think about the health benefits of clean water, we actually only consumeabout two quarts per day. But we take in an extraordinary amount of air in the courseof a workday. As weeks and months and years go by, we realize that there is nothingas critical to our well being than the quality of that air. The EPA reports that indoor aircan be up to 100 times more polluted than outside air. In fact, 94% of all respiratoryailments are caused by polluted air.The Centers for DiseaseControl and Prevention(CDC) estimate that themajority of Americansspend approximately90%of their time indoorsThe AMA reports that a lack of proper air filtration is the #1 cause of poor Indoor AirQuality (IAQ). For over 90 years, AAF has improved and controlled the quality of airthrough a wide range of solutions in the air filtration industry. On average, office workersspend approximatelyIndoor Air Quality: The Air That We Breathe34%of American workers feel thatpoor IAQ had caused them tomiss work1000600For everypoor IAQ results insick days per yearworkers,40hoursa week in office buildingsFor this reason, some expertsbelieve that more people maysuffer from the effects of indoorair pollution than from outdoorair pollution.65%Up toofasthma cases in school-agedchildren could be preventedwith proper IAQIndoor Air Quality (IAQ) is a term that refers to the air quality in a building, breathed inevery day by the building’s occupants. IAQ has been identified by the EPA as one ofthe top five most urgent environmental risks to public health. Building occupants maybe exposed to a variety of contaminants in the form of gases and particles from officemachines, cleaning products, construction activities, carpets and furnishings, perfumes, cigarette smoke, water-damaged building materials, microbial growth(fungal, mold, and bacterial), insects, and outdoor pollutants. Many common IAQproblems are associated with improperly operated and maintained heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems.AAF has a policy of continuous product research andimprovement and reserves the right to change designand specifications without notice.4ISO Certified 9001:2000 2013 AAF InternationalUSGBC Member logo and LEED are trademarks owned bywww.aafintl.comBETTER AIR IS OUR BUSINESS

TRENDSKentucky 40223AIR FILTRATION PRODUCTSFine Particle Pollution: Long and Short-Term EffectsAn extensive body of scientific evidence shows that long and short-term exposures tofine particle pollution, also known as fine particulate matter (PM), can cause prematuredeath and harmful effects to the cardiovascular system, including increased hospitaladmissions and emergency department visits for heart attacks and strokes. Scientificevidence also links particulate matter to harmful respiratory effects, including asthmaattacks.People most at risk from particle pollution exposure include people with heart or lungdisease (including asthma), older adults, children, and people of lower socioeconomicstatus. Research indicates that pregnant women, newborns, and people withcertain health conditions, such as obesity or diabetes, also may be more susceptibleto PM-related effects.Improving IAQ: An Important StepMaximizing the level of filtration employed within the constraints of the HVAC systemdesign is an important step to improving IAQ. Significant increases in workerproductivity have been demonstrated when the air quality was improved. Researchhas also shown that workers in buildings with optimum air quality have reduced ratesof symptoms related to poor air quality.AAF: Addressing Business Challengesin a Changing Market.“The U.S. Indoor Air Quality market is expected to grow to11.4 billion predicted to top nearlyby 2019, with the equipment segment6 billion.”Customers Are Demanding Better AirCustomers are also demanding more from their IAQ solutions. Driven by increasedconsumer awareness, growing economies and new, advanced technological solutions, today’s IAQ market is expected to continue to grow at an extraordinary rate. Becauseof these rapid changes and near future challenges, it has become more and moredifficult to stay current in this state-of-the-art industry. The risks associated with risingcosts and critical timing issues have never been higher. And that’s why it is even more critical to partner with an expert in the
