Scientificevidence also links particulate matter to harmful respiratory effects, including asthmaattacks.People most at risk from particle pollution exposure include people with heart or lungdisease (including asthma), older adults, children, and people of lower socioeconomicstatus. Research indicates that pregnant women, newborns, and people withcertain health conditions, such as obesity or diabetes, also may be more susceptibleto PM-related effects.Improving IAQ: An Important StepMaximizing the level of filtration employed within the constraints of the HVAC systemdesign is an important step to improving IAQ.
