Weekly Message from Deacon Rob on the Sunday ReadingsIn our world today, there exists aconstant search for wealth and wisdom. Our American society, capitalist innature, requires individuals to strive formaterial gain and the power that comeswith it. Notwithstanding, other culturesinevitablyemphasizethesameingredients even though they aregoverned by other societal forms e.g.socialism, communism, tribalism, etc.Thisworldlyviewstandsinjuxtaposition to the Divine which isreflected in the Kingdom of God – theway of life intended for mankind. It isnot surprising, then, that Christians findthe modern road of life difficult to follow. Today’sLiturgy of Word is intended to assist us in travelling theroad that Christ followed. A road contrary to the way ofthe world. A road embedded with sacrifice but leadingto eternal joy. Today, we are called to listen attentivelyto the Word so that our journey to the Kingdom can besuccessful. In the first reading from the Book of Wisdom, the soleingredient needed for the journey to the Kingdom of theGod is revealed. We are told that the traveler on theroad of life should acquire Wisdom. This “Wisdom” isnot intelligence; rather, it is the personal involvement ofGod through the Holy Spirit. This involvement is betterthan gold or gems which are just material things thatdecay. It is this Divine Presence that does not decay butstrengthens the traveler and imparts the ability to seethings in proper perspective. Without this DivineGuidance, the traveler constantly seeks happiness whichis constantly elusive. Without our Spiritual Soul Mate, the Holy Spirit, we are left alone and isolated. Lifebecome unbearable and disheartening as there exists an“emptiness” within our beings. The very short reading today from the Letter to theHebrews succinctly expresses this same need for theDivine Presence in our life. Here, the Word is revealedas omnipresent and omniscient – knowing our thoughts and desires. The earlyChristian is reminded that all our actionsare “ naked and exposed” and requiresan accountability on our part. Christiansare constantly urged to guide theiractions in accordance to the Word theyheard. Only through this method will theKingdom of God be realized throughthem. Finally, today’s Gospel by Mark revealshow difficult it is for those who wish tobe followers of the Lord. In the Gospel,Jesus is approached by a man who wishesto know what he has to do to have eternal life. Christtells him to obey the commandments. The inquirer saysthat he has done this. Then, Christ adds that there isonly one thing the man lacks – Agape love. The Messiahtells him to sell all that he has and follow him. This theman cannot or is not willing to do; so, he abandons Jesusand walks away sad. This event causes distress for his disciples. They begin towonder how anyone can be saved. It is at this point thatChrist teaches his disciples that man, on his own, cannotbe saved; rather, only through the Divine is it possible. The Lord, then, reminds his followers that anyone whomakes sacrifices will be repaid by God “ a hundredtimes more ” in the Kingdom to come.Holy Mother the Church calls her children to this sameroad of discipleship. She reminds us that to follow Christmeans to sacrifice and to place our lives into His hands. She admonishes us not to abandon Christ as the man inthe Gospel does; rather, we are to embrace him and ourcross as we journey. Only through the Wisdom of theHoly Spirit and the joining of our lives with Christ canthe Kingdom of God come to fruition. It is up to us toplace our will in the Hands of the Father so that Wisdomcan fill the earth, again. It is our witness that reveals theWord to others and it’s our responsibility to reveal God’slove for all.Recuerde revisar el calendario parroquial con Dianaantes de planificar su evento o actividad en la Iglesia.Remember to check the parish calendar with Dianabefore planning your event or activity in the Church.Oct. 6 & 7READERSEMHC10/6 5 PM MASSKelly Wilson, IsabelLumbreras7 PM MISALeticia Zacarias, MairaTorresJudy Soukup10/7 9 AM MASSEdith Rincon, Glenda Brown10/7 11:30 MISAJuan Lopez, HumbertoBetancourtTom Kuzma, JeanneBreitensteinn/aSergio Becerra, AngelaBecerra, Marikza Andraden/aMaribel SanMiguel, IsabelAzua, Rafael Azua, VanessaCasillas, Rafaela LopezDamian, Joshua, KaikeGiovanny, Brian, LupeBella, Aliyah, RaulKimberly, Jonathan, AngelACCOMMODORESSERVERS10/6
