Theindividuals honored aremaking an impact incompanies, communities,Michigan State University,and around the world.HAROLDHENDERSONHarold Henderson, a 1972 graduate ofthe College of Social Science, was thefirst African American police officerat MSU. Henderson also is a graduateof Harvard Law School, which ledhim to be one of the first AfricanAmericans to work at a major lawfirm in Washington DC. Hendersonserved for 16 years as the ExecutiveVice President for Labor Relations andChairman of the Management CouncilExecutive Committee for the NationalFootball League. Henderson was thehighest ranking African American everin professional sports. He is currentlythe President of the NFL Player CareFoundation. Henderson and his wifeFranzine have established an endowedscholarship which provides MSU studentswith financial assistance for internshipsand study away/abroad experiences.

Shimp serves as the Chairof the Social Science Alumni LeadershipCouncil Board. She has also servedon the MSU College of Social ScienceAlumni Association Board of Directors.Shimp currently mentors a SocialScience Scholar and is a proud memberof the Berkey Hall Society. She has a B.S.in Family and Consumer Resources andan M.A. in Advertising, both from MSU.Shimp also serves on the board of IllinoisCollege Access Network and the UnitedWay of Metropolitan Chicago’s allocationcommittee.Rosa A. Weaver is an award-winningTax Attorney and Director of AttorneyRecruiting for Parker Lynch Legal.Weaver is a 2002 graduate of MSU’sSchool of Criminal Justice. Shepreviously worked at General Motors asa Global Security Investigator, helpingto develop an internship program forMSU Criminal Justice students. Weaveralso holds a Juris Doctorate degreefrom University of Detroit Mercy Schoolof Law. She serves on the MSU AlumniBoard in Texas.

Theseindividuals demonstrate a commitment to the College of SocialScience through outstanding volunteer service on behalf of theuniversity, and/or participation and leadership in meritoriouspublic service on a local, state, national, or international level.NEALHEGARTYALEJANDRALOAIZA-DELGADONeal Hegarty, an MSU Public Policyand Administration Alumnus, is theMott Foundation’s Vice President ofPrograms. He oversees grantmakingin the Flint-based Foundation’s fourprogram areas and works closely withboth senior management and programstaff in designing and implementing theFoundation’s grantmaking strategies.Alejandra Loaiza-Delgado is aDirector at Ankura Consulting Group,LLC based in Ann Arbor. Previously,she was a member of 284 Partners,LLC. Delgado has also worked as aconsultant focused on financial issuespertaining to intellectual property. Shehas a bachelor’s degree in Financewith an additional major in Economicsfrom MSU. Delgado graduated withhonors and high distinction. She nowserves on the Women’s LeadershipInstitute Board.Throughout his career, Hegarty has beenan active and enthusiastic participant onmany committees and boards. Currently,he serves as a trustee of Candid, a nonprofit organization formedas a result of the recent merger of the Foundation Center andGuideStar. He is a member of the Michigan Office of FoundationLiaison Advisory Committee and has served on the Michigan StateUniversity Political Science Advisory Board. Additionally, Hegartyhas served as an advocate for the Michigan State UniversityMasters of Public Policy Program, InnovateGov Program,and the Flint Community Initiative Program.

Theseindividuals demonstrate a commitment to the College of SocialScience through outstanding volunteer service on behalf of theuniversity, and/or participation and leadership in meritoriouspublic service on a local, state, national, or international level.JAYTHAKERJay Thaker graduated in 2011 witha BA in Economics and a BS inInterdisciplinary Studies. Jay is currentlythe Director of Population Health atOak Street Health, based in Chicago.Prior to his role at Oak Health, Jaycompleted his MBA candidacy at theHarvard Business School. Jay also heldthe role as Senior International ProgramAdministrator for the Cleveland Clinic.Jay is a former member of the AlumniBoard for the College and currentlyserves as a mentor for the SocialScience Scholars program.PHILANTHROPYAWARDPresented to an individual, family, association, corporation,or foundation with a proven record of providing major,ongoing financial support and leadership to the Collegeof Social Science at Michigan State University.LAURIE LINSCOTT &IRV LESHERIrv Lesher and Laurie Linscott deeply valuetheir relationship with Michigan State University.Linscott attended MSU earning an MA degreein Child Development. She is the Director ofthe Child Development Laboratories in theDepartment of Human Development andFamily Studies. She serves on a number ofboards including the Wharton Center AdvisoryCommittee, President of Michigan Associationfor the Education of Young Children and wasappointed by the Governor to the Early ChildhoodInvestment Corporation Executive Committee.Irv graduated in 1968 with a BA in BusinessAdministration, followed by an MBA in Marketingin 1974. He founded American CollegiateMarketing in 1975 with offices located acrossthe street from MSU. Irv has deep roots at MSU.His great-great-uncle, Theophilus Abbott, wasPresident of Michigan Agricultural College (MAC)from 1862-1885. His great-grandfather, OscarClute, served as President of MAC from 1889-1893.Irv’s grandmother was one of the earliest femaleMSU graduates, and many other family membersalso attended MSU.

HUMANITARIANAWARDGiven to a College of Social Science graduate whohas demonstrated support, aid and action designedto alleviate suffering and maintain and protect humandignity on a global, regional, or local scale.OUTSTANDINGFACULTY AWARDPresented annually, this award recognizes a current facultymember in the MSU College of Social Science who takes pridein and is committed to quality teaching and who demonstratessubstantial continuing involvement in undergraduate education.MARYTAVAROZZIERICAFRANTZMary Tavarozzi is the Founder andPrincipal of MLT Advisors LLC.Tavarozzi has worked with a variety ofFortune 500 companies throughoutthe US and Canada in the design andimplementation of comprehensiveworkforce health and productivityprograms. Tavarozzi serves on theSocial Science Scholars AdvisoryBoard. She has funded and establishedan endowed scholarship for studentsworking in unpaid internships.Tavarozzi has a bachelor’s degree inUrban Development from MSU.Erica Frantz (Ph.D., UCLA, 2008)is an Associate Professor inPolitical Science at Michigan StateUniversity. From 2011 to 2015,she was an assistant professor inPolitical Science at BridgewaterState University, and from 2008 to2011 she worked as an analyst atthe Institute for Physical Sciences.Her research and teaching interestsinclude authoritarian politics,democratization, conflict, anddevelopment. She is particularlyinterested in the security and policyimplications of autocratic rule.
