Public healthstudy tour—PeruGrace BedwardBachelor of Occupational Therapyand Master of Public Health studentGlobal opportunities‘Our group which included students of publichealth as well as nutrition and dietetics, exercisescience, health science, occupational therapyand biomedical science, spent 10 days within theSacred Valley of Peru. We travelled to rural andurban areas, learning about the history, culture,and various factors which influence the populationhealth of the region. I was able to engage withrural primary school children for whom weconducted a hygiene workshop, and met withthe principal to discuss the constraints of thisrural, lower socio-economic area and the types ofeducation they deliver. This amazing experienceincreased my confidence and my ability tocommunicate with people from different cultures,and to help them overcome barriers where a lackof good health practices can stop them doingtheir everyday tasks.’07
