Abbott, a practicing physician and pharmacyproprietor, founded the company that bears his name.Using the active part of a medicinal plant, known asthe “alkaloid,” he formed tiny pills, called “dosimetricgranules,” which provided more accurate and effectivedosing for his patients than other treatments availableat the time.
