What do we do atQueens Court?We have raised the profile of nutrition in ourcare home We have introduced home NutritionChampions.We have quarterly regional nutritionmeetings attended by home NutritionChampions and Head Chefs.

At Queens CourtWe discuss nutrition of at risk residents at dailystand up meetings.We have monthly nutrition meetings –discussing nutritional profile of our residents.We ensure that the Resident of the Day isvisited by the chef.We are committed to ensuring that everyonehas a 5* Dining Experience in a hospitableenvironment.

Guidelines to holdinga Nutrition MeetingInvite representatives from eachdepartment (must have a senior member ofstaff).Meeting to be held on 1st – 4th of eachmonth (Time – 2.15 -3.15pm)Agenda to be around monthly NutritionProfile.

Key Characteristics of aNutrition Champion1. KnowledgeA working knowledge of the nutrition, the key foodgroups and the calorie count for male and female.2. Good CommunicatorKeeping colleagues in the loop and work together forthe benefit of the residents.3. Ability to give trainingTrain colleagues in the basics of nutrition so that theyare aware of the importance of good nutrition andhydration.

Cont’d 4. Meeting residents individual dietary requirementsChampions / Chef to visit Resident of the Day.Liaise with Head Chef / Duty Chef to ensure that changesare communicated with staff.5. Lead by exampleThe nutrition champion will always work hard, beprofessional at all times and be determined to ensurethat residents receive the nutrition and hydration theyrequire.The Nutrition Champion will be positive, knowledgeableand helpful and will ensure that the desired outcomesare achieved.

Coordinator / LeaderThe Nutrition Champion will work with the care, nursing,hospitality and activities team to ensure that all theteams are working with the same objective.The Nutrition Champion will lead the teams and facilitatenutrition meetings.

To concludeStandard - Nutrition is a very important partof care. The catering department should bevalued.Impact - Residents, relatives and staff usuallyexpress their satisfaction and appreciationor complaints around quality of food.
