History of the SchoolConcorde Career College, formerly Valley College ofMedical and Dental Careers, has been operating since1955. The original program offerings were Medical andDental Assistant.Over the years, the school has expanded its curricula tomeet the increasing demands for trained allied healthprofessionals in a variety of areas. The VocationalNursing program, which prepares students for statelicensure as licensed vocational nurses, was started inNovember 1966. The Respiratory Therapy program wasadded in 1969 and is fully accredited by theCommission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care(CoARC).In May 1986, Concorde Career Colleges, Inc., acquiredthe school. A dental x-ray darkroom equipped for theprocessing of dental x-rays. A respiratory laboratory equipped with therapeuticequipment. Surgical technology labs with a simulatedoperating room and scrub area. A Learning Resource Center (LRC), providing aquiet area where students may refer to variouspublications, journals, technical manuals, andreference books. Students are allowed to checkout books from the LRC for purposes of research,review, or report preparation. Books may bechecked out with the library supervisor. Studentsare also able to complete homework assignmentswith the use of eight online computers.Students will be held responsible and accountablefor books and other items belonging to ConcordeCareer Colleges, Inc., and the LRC. Once a book, orother item, is borrowed from the LRC by a student,it becomes the responsibility of the receiver(student) to maintain the integrity/ condition of thebook and return the item within three businessdays (excluding Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays).Students who have checked out a book from theLRC will have three business days to use the itemin its educational capacity. If the book is neededfor longer than the three-day checkout, it may berechecked at the discretion of the LRC Coordinator.If the book is then not returned within the threeday period, a charge of .50 per day will beassessed. If the student loses the book, thestudent will be responsible for paying the originallist price for the lost book. If the student damagesthe book, the student can be charged a minimumof 10, up to full, original list price, depending onthe damage and ability to reuse the book.Students are placed on Records Hold until all LRCmaterials are either returned or the replacementcost of any damaged or lost materials is paid. A nonsmoking student lounge, which includesvending machines and microwaves, is available forstudent use.EquipmentEquipment and instruments are available to instructstudents in the skills they will need in their chosencareers. Concorde students acquire knowledge andtechnical skills through demonstrations, actualoperation of equipment, and the practice of techniques.Among the major items of equipment available toConcorde students are the following (by program):Dental Assistant ProgramThe dental laboratory area has four dental operatories.The dental lab room is equipped with lathes, modeltrimmers, bench grinders, vibrators, sterilizationequipment, hydrocolloid units, and other teaching aids.One operatory is designated for a local practicingdentist to see private patients. This provides students aunique opportunity for hands-on training andobservation. This is a fully equipped, fully functionaldental facility with dental x-ray units, including digital xrays, darkroom, and teaching and x-ray mannequins.Medical Assistant ProgramThis program has a laboratory stocked with medicaltest supplies and equipment, such as stethoscopes,glucometers, sphygmomanometers, examination andtreatment tables, autoclaves, electrocardiographmachines, centrifuges, microscopes, teachingmannequins, and other teaching aids.Medical Office Administration ProgramThis program has a fully equipped computer lab withindustry-standard personal computers and software.Physical Therapist Assistant ProgramEquipment includes treatment tables, electromagneticand electrical stimulation devices, biofeedback units,ultrasound, traction, thermal modalities and adaptiveequipment. Therapeutic exercise equipment includes atreadmill, parallel bars, exercise balls, free weights,balance boards, and other devices that promote fineand gross motor skills. Assistive devices includewheelchairs, walkers, crutches, canes, and orthotics/braces. Assessment equipment includes stethoscopes,goniometers, postural screening boards, pulseoximeters, spirometers, and other teaching aids.Respiratory Therapy ProgramThis program has a comprehensive laboratoryequipped with oxygen devices, aerosol/humiditydevices, lung expansion devices (intermittent positivepressure breathing machines, incentive spirometers,continuous positive airway pressure machines),mechanical ventilators (respirators), airwaymaintenance devices (suction machines, intubationtools, artificial airways), and ancillary equipment (arterialblood gas equipment, oximetry, capnography,pulmonary function equipment, mannequins), plus alibrary complete with respiratory and respiratoryrelated medical journals, texts, and audiovisualequipment.Surgical Technology ProgramThis program has a lab equipped with an operatingroom bed, back tables, mayo stands, prep table, steamautoclave, overhead operating surgery light, anesthesiamachine, disposable medical and surgical supplies, kickbuckets, scrub sinks, supply storage cabinets, and othermiscellaneous teaching aids.2021-2022 North Hollywood Catalog Publication Date: May 21, 2022 Effective July 1, 2021 through June 30, 20226

Vocational Nursing ProgramAudiovisual AidsThe Vocational Nursing program offers catheters,nasogastric tubes, oxygen and masks, needles,syringes, suction machine, K-pad, wheelchairs,stethoscopes, sphygmomanometers, Glucoscan,thermometers, ophthalmoscope, simulated patientunits, teaching mannequins/models, sterile supplies,and other teaching aids.Concorde’s programs are supported with referencebooks, charts, field trips, demonstrations, and otherteaching aids. Admissions In accordance with Federal regulations, to bea recognized equivalent of a proof of highschool diploma, the following are acceptable:1. Successful completion of an associatedegree program;2. Success completion of at least 60semester or trimester credit hours or 72quarter credit hours that did not result inthe awarding of an associate degree, butthat are acceptable for full credit towarda bachelor’s degree at any institution; or3. Enrollment in a bachelor’s degreeprogram where at least 60 semester ortrimester credit hours or 72 quartercredit hours have been successfullycompleted, including credit hourstransferred into the bachelor’s degreeprogram. Foreign transcripts (high school or college)accompanied by foreign evaluation report andtranslation (if applicable).Entrance RequirementsAs a prospective student, you are encouraged to reviewthis catalog prior to signing an Enrollment Agreement.You are also encouraged to review the SchoolPerformance Fact Sheet, which must be provided toyou prior to signing an Enrollment Agreement.The school reserves the right to reject applicants and/or rescind eligibility for an applicant to begin classes ifall general and selective admissions requirements arenot successfully completed within the requiredtimeframe.Admission to any one program does not automaticallyqualify a student for admission into any other program.If a student wishes to apply to another program in thefuture, the individual must independently meet all theadmissions requirements in place for that program atthe time of the future enrollment. Social Security NumberApplicants for admission must possess a valid socialsecurity number. Documentation must be providedupon request. A valid social security number is requiredto be registered and/or certified by appropriate boards.Other documents may be required by some licensingagencies.Foreign StudentsApplicants indicating that they graduated from a foreignhigh school and have the equivalent of a U.S. secondaryeducation must present original credentials (diploma,transcript, etc.). In addition, documentation from foreigncountries must be translated and certified to be at leastthe equivalent of a U.S. high school diploma.Foreign TranscriptsCoursework taken at a foreign institution (excludingsecondary school documents that are in English andare recognized by the U.S. Department of Education)must be evaluated for equivalence to coursework takenat a United States institution. The student willnot be considered for admission.If a student is currently attending, and the Institutionbecomes aware of a forged credential, the followingapplies: If the forged document was used to admit thestudent, and the absence of that credential wouldmake the student inadmissible, the student will bedismissed from the Institution with no earnedcredits awarded; or If the forged document was used to gain transfercredit, the student will be dismissed from theInstitution and any transfer credit already awardedfrom the forged credential will be removed.Personal InterviewThe school requires a personal, on-campus interviewwith each applicant prior to acceptance into anyprogram. The school encourages parents or spouses toattend the interview. This gives applicants and theirfamilies the opportunity to see the campus’s equipmentand facilities and to ask specific questions relating tothe school, the curriculum, and the career trainingbeing considered. The personal interview also gives theschool the opportunity to meet prospective studentsand evaluate their qualifications and aptitude.
