Market Update8-30-21"If we don't change, we don't grow. If we don't grow, wearen't really living."Gail SheehyThe Market Update, in existence since 2012, is published on a weekly basis and is intended to be asource of lumber and commodities information for the present & future and pricing trendinformation. We appreciate receiving some of this information from Forest Economic Advisors, RISIInc and LMC.Builders values the opportunity to serve its customers in Colorado & Nebraska and provide you withLumber & Panel price guidelines as well as Commodities information.Curtailments continue:Several publicly announced additional curtailments this week. Very little activityuntil late in the week. The mill’s efforts seem to be more offshore as they try andmove product.Prices firmed up, but could not crack the 400 barrier.Fiberglass Insulation: Production still cannot keep up with demand, andsuppliers cannot build inventories. Orders are backed up, and are basically beingmade to order at this point. We expect this continue into the first Q of 2022. Weare monitoring this on a daily basis and will continue to push for more trucks.Gypsum: September increases have been announced. We've seen a "seasonal"slow in demand, but expect it to tick back up in Sept/Oct. Shaftwall liner and MatFaced sheathing lead times continue to be strained as a result of the raw materialshortages.Foam Sheathing: October 1 increases have been announced and lead times arerunning about 4-6 weeks.1

Market UpdateFrom LMC: “In the meantime, more unannounced curtailments unbeknownst to us are takingplace in the background. These, and other unknown factors, should keep us on the lookout aswe’ll never see the end coming. We could expect sudden shifts in momentum and direction. Thatsaid, it does appear to be off in the distance. Lumber is not the Housing Market’s issue.Windows, siding, labor (for all of us), LVL and I-Joists are some of the issues we are facing. Theseproblems are governing the pace of business. We can’t buy cheaper lumber in earnest until themore expensive lumber has moved out. Time .it’s just gonna take time.”Some buying in the Fir’s this week, but still more inquiries than purchases. Notenough to keep prices from falling 5 to 10 on 2x4. Wides fell a little further. SPFheld its own and actually gained on 2x4.Studs continued to search for a bottom and while it seems to be close, it wasanother week of double digit drops. Overall, a 12 drop in our composite.Lumber CompositeToday 1 week ago 1 month ago 1 year ago526538646921% /-2.2%-18.5%-42.8%The Lumber Composite is a weighted average of HF, DF, SPF dimension and studs as well as Fir and DF wides6

Market UpdatePanels:Buying panels resumed this week. No any heavy purchases, just replenishment.Western Canada (our Denver region) strengthened late last week, but did not seemto be based on additional purchases and no “real” explanation exists. This hashappened before (largely driven by Tolko, but both West Fraser and LP are happy tojump on board).Overall modest gains for the week. Up 1.3%. I believe we have hit bottom and arenow riding the bump back up.Panel CompositeToday1 week ago 1 month ago 1 year ago 646 637 1,086 807% /1.3%-40.6%-20.0%The OSB Composite is a weighted average of both Colorado and Nebraska panels from 7/16 through 23/32 T&G.7
