Multi-PlyModified Bitumen Roofing Assemblies

Multi-Ply Modified Bitumen Roofing SystemsProviding EXTRA protection for your roofThe primary benefit of a bituminous roof system is athick assembly comprised of multiple layers.Multi-ply systems allow those responsible for buildingmaintenance to sleep at night. Multi-Ply ModifiedBitumen membranes have a stable thickness whilesingle-ply membranes have annual thickness loss due toweathering.Evolved from time-tested BUR roofs, the standardcommercial roof application for over 100 years, modified bitumen roofs have membranes modified withSBS to attain rubber-like qualities or APP to attain thedurability of plastic. The choice is matched to the needsof the building roof. All Mod Bit membranes are reinforced. Fiberglassreinforcements provide dimensional stability whilepolyester reinforcements add puncture resistance. Usedin a combination of both, you can have the best of bothworlds. What are Modified Bitumen Membranes?Traditional bituminous roofs were made with roofingfelts and several mopped layers of hot asphalt, surfacedwith gravel, to create a Built-Up Roof (BUR). This was thestandard low-slope commercial roof for over 100 years, but BUR roofs have their limitations. To enhanceperformance, Modified Bitumen roof products weredeveloped by adding polymers to the asphalt whichwas combined with a fiberglass or polyester reinforcementwhich results in an impermeable roof membrane. TheseAPP or SBS sheets have been commercially available for40 years in several configurations including basesheets, granulated cap sheets, film surfaced cap sheets, and metal surfaced sheets typically used for flashing.

Modified Bitumen vs. Single Ply MembranesModified Bitumen multi-ply systems provide several layers of defense, unlikesingle ply membranes. When properly installed, mod bit membranes have astable thickness while single-ply membranes have annual thickness loss due toweathering.POLYGLASSModified BitumenEPDM TPO PVCLayers of Roof Membrane2 or more1Climate RegionsUnlimitedLimitedTypical ThicknessUp to 300 mils40 - 95 mils11 Polyglass colors1*Smooth, Granular & FilmSmoothAvailable Warranties20 Years20 YearsApplication MethoddSelf-Adhered, Heat-Welded,Cold-Applied, Hot MoppedFully Adhered, Ballasted,Mechanically-FastenedHail Resistant Wind Rated Fire Approvals UL Approvals Color OptionsAvailable Surface*EPDM is typically black, PVC & TPO are typically whiteSingle Ply
