THE DEDICATION OF ANNUALS COMMITTEERECOMMENDS THAT THE lINUTE S OF THEONE HUNDRED TWENTY-FIlTTH ANNUAL SESSIONBE DEDICATED TO1 REV. ALFRED E. ANDRE\VS, JR. .Alfred Edward An drews, Jr. was the first-born to Mr. and Mrs. Alfred and Edna SmithAndrews of Chaneston , SC. He has a sister, Anella Sansbury, who lives in Columbia, SC. Hecommitted his life to God at the age of nine at Citadel Square Baptlst Church. During his earlyyears an d in hi gh school, his mother relates that he was always involved with people who hadproblems and wanted to alleviate their hurts. His compassion for others and love for God evenstood out as a youth. He received many honors in school an d graduated from St. Andrews HighSchool in 1958.From high school , AI wen t on to the University of South Carolina pursuing a degree inpharmacy, fo llowing in his fathers footsteps. It was during these years that he met his wife, theformer Margaret Floyd. Also while attend ing USC, he felt his call from God to be a minister ofthe gospel. He responded immediate ly and transferred to CampbelJl University in order to receivesome Biblical studies befo re ente ring the seminary. In the summer of 1962, AI and Margaretwere married . They have been married for thirty-fou r years and Mrs. Andrews has wOrkedfaithfully in Wilkesboro Baptist Ch urch , and as a teacher in the Wilkes County School system forthe past 17 years.Rev. Andrews graduated from Campbell University in January of 1964 and enteredSoutheastern Seminary at Wake Forest, NC. He graduated from Southeastern in May of 1967.While at the semi nary, his first son was born - Alfred Edward 'Eddie' Andrews, III. Eddiegraduated from Gardner-Webb University in business in 1987, married Peggy Baird in 1989, andfarmed for nine years. He has now, th is past year, answered a call from God to become aminister and entered Gardne r-Webb Divinity School in August of ttlis year.continued next pagev

From Southeastern, AI and Margaret moved to Pollocksville, NC, where Rev. Andrews wascalled as pastor. Many rich and spiritually rewarding experiences are a part of the sweetmemories of this pastorate. It was while there a new parsonage was built - a lovely home whichthe Andrews only got to enjoy for about a year. While seNing in PollocksvHle, their second sonwas born In New Bern, NC - James Keister Andrews. James graduated from Wake ForestUniversity anQ .Bowrnan Gray Sch ool of Medicine in 1994. He married the former Susan Earleand they live in Charlottesville, VA where James is in his last year of residency in InternalMedicine at the University of Virginia Hospital. From Pollocksville, Rev. An drews was called to First Baptist Church, Hickory, NC. Herehe ministered to youth and was Minister of Education . During tl1ese two and a half years, he alsoserved as interim pastor while the church searched for a senior minister. This was a time ofspiritual growth and maturing as God contin ued to use his gifts througl1 this special body of Christ. In May, 1973, Rev. Andrews felt God's leade rship, guidance and call to become the pastorof Wilkesboro Baptist Church, where for twenty-three years he has seNed as its pastor. In hisyears at Wilkesboro Baptist Church, the church has grown spiritually, numerically, built a neweducational facility, added numerous church programs and added an 8:30 AM worship seNice .These are just a few of the ways God has used him as His instrument while serving WilkesboroBaptist Church. Rev. Andrews would be tile fi rst to say that anything accomplished is not of hisdoing, but God's using him to serve His people. Rev. Andrews is first of all a seNant of his Lordand master, and always reiterates how amazed he is that God can use a person like him - whoonly spoke "Charlestonese" - to speak before a group of believers. He will quickly tell you thatonly through God's guidance and strength is he where he is today. And, he is also acutely awareof whatever is done needs to be don e only to glorify God. Rev. Andrews is a man of God andlives what he preaches. He has served in many capacities as a community seNant. Some of his involvementfoll ows: Wi lkes YMCA Board, Personnel Committee; Homeless Shelter, Chairman; President ofthe Kiwan is Club; Wilkes Day Care President; Chaplain, Wilkes Central Higtl School; coach ofLittle League teams; Chairman of the Community Health Council; United Way Board; President,Business and Professional Men, and vari ous others.Upon his arrival in Wilkes County, Rev. Andrews became active in the Brushy MountainBaptist Associati on. From 1973 until the present, there has never been a year when he did notserve in a position of leadership in th e association , or seNe on one or more of its committees .He has been Moderator 3 years, Vice-moderator 2 years, chai red the Ordination Committee 2years, the Committee on Committees 2 years, the Program Planning Committee 3 years, theNominatin g Committee 1 year, and the Evangelism Committee 1 year. Additionally, he hasserved as a member of so many other committees that it would probably be easier to list thosecommittees of which he has not been a member. However, it is quite strLking to see that henever tri ed to serve in so many capacities at the same time as to be seen as trying to dominate,or that would prevent him from perfo rming the job in an outstanding manner. He has alwaysbeen most gracious in makin g tile facilities of his church available for Associational functions.Although we sometimes feel that we impose on the church by scheduling so many activities there,AI always makes us feel welcome. To Rev. Al fred E. Andrews, Jr. - AI - who personifies the meaning of the word PASTOR,we wish to dedicate this annual.Respectfu lly submitte d,Grace Shaw, ChairpersonGeorge F. McNeilNellie Rashvi
