The CAMLOG Implant System –Science and Practice (Summary) Within just a few years after entering the market, CAMLOG has become one of the leaders in implant systems in Germany. At CAMLOG,science has become more and more important in recent years. Alarge number of both young and established scientists are involvedwith the CAMLOG Implant System and document its clinical evidence and performance. On the other side stands confirmation frompractice.Characteristics of the CAMLOG Implant Systems are: Team approach – optimized interdisciplinary cooperation Backward planning – planning guided by prosthetic criteria Simple prosthetics – proficient handling Precision – of implant, abutment and their connection Choice and universal use Effective surgical proceeding Cost-effectiveness.Long-term resultsProspective clinical studies have been performed recently on thesurvival and success rates of the CAMLOG Implant System over aperiod of 5 years and more. Retrospective studies had as their focalpoint the success and/or survival rates of implants for different indications. At the 1st International CAMLOG Congress in May 2006,Drs Ackermann and Kirsch, Prof Babbush, Prof Lin, Prof Singer andProf Watanabe presented the results of their up to 7-year follow-upstudies. The cumulative number of implants was 8,251, and the survival rate was above 98.5%. The detailed study results can be gathered from the brochure “The CAMLOG Implant System – Scienceand Practice” in its long version.Scientific studiesThe Tube-in-Tube connection is the centerpiece of the CAMLOG Implant System. It ensures simple, secure chair-side and laboratoryhandling consistently over all four CAMLOG implant lines. The Tubein-Tube connection is an integrative factor for the team approachbetween oral surgeon, prosthetic dentist, and dental technician. On analyzing the scientific literature dealing with the design of implant-abutment connections (Steinebrunner et al. 2005a and 2005b;Reinert & Geis-Gerstorfer 2007; Edinger et al. 2007; Semper et al.,submitted), it becomes evident that, regarding leak-tightness, accuracy of fit, rotational stability, and fatigue strength, the patentedCAMLOG Tube-in-Tube connection ranks highly among all implant systems investigated into.Other scientific publications (Jansen et al. 1995 and 1997; Gross etal. 1999) show that two-part implants without micro-gaps andwithout micro-movements have not yet been developed. The researchers conclude in their reports that the implant systems currently onthe market are not capable of excluding bacterial penetration intothe implant-abutment section. (Complete references to be gatheredfrom the brochure “The CAMLOG Implant System – Science andPractice” in its long version.)The patented Tube-in-Tube connectionwith its distinctive groove (implant) cam (abutment) design is the centerpieceof the CAMLOG Implant System (PatentEP 851744 and corresponding trade markrights). The publications of Steinebrunner et al. (2005a, 2005b) in “Implantologie“ and the “Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Implants”support the high fatigue strength, stability, and measured leaktightness of the CAMLOG Tube-in-Tube connection. The Tube-in-Tube connection ensuresunambiguous and rapid positioning ofthe abutments. It safeguards straightforward and secure clinical prosthetical andlaboratory procedures.

Experience from clinical practice(Excerpts from the original statements in the brochure “The CAMLOG ImplantSystem – Science and Practice” in its long version.)Dr Karl-Ludwig Ackermann,Dr Axel Kirsch andGerhard Neuendorff, MDTFilderstadt, Germany The CAMLOG Implant System used in our practice since 1996has met the new challenges right from the start. The interface between practice and dental laboratory, between oral surgeon, dentaltechnician, and prosthetic dentist, has been newly defined and ithas guaranteed more reliability and long-term stability throughbeing simpler than before. The discovered solutions have been success-oriented and have produced the effect that not only many ofour colleagues have been impressed by the results and the clinicalsuitability of the CAMLOG Implant System, but also that the undoubted benefits have been taken over across different implantsystems.Dr Claudio Cacaci,Munich, Germany In summary, it can be said that the most importantcriteria for an implant system are patient safety and the quality offunctional and esthetical long-term results. Both are beyond reproach with the CAMLOG Implant System. Dr Gerhard Iglhaut,Memmingen, Germany The CAMLOG Implant System offers optimum hand-ling in implant surgery and prosthetics. The Promote plus surface extendsalmost completely over the parallel implant neck and holds the boneat a specified height. Thereby, the risk of soft-tissue recession isminimized . The Tube-in-Tube connection provides a simple andsecure attachment of the abutments, absolute rotational stability,an exact transfer from the model to the patient’s mouth, and highstability because of favorable force transfer and transmission. Andeas Kunz, MDT,Dr Detlef HildebrandBerlin, Germany Due to the basic construction principle, the CAMLOG ImplantSystem has succeeded in minimizing rotational play and this hasgreatly simplified its application in practice. Retrospectivelyviewed, we have completely changed our prosthetics constructionprinciple in response to positive experience. Reduction in rotationalplay represents an important basis of our ”Berlin concept“. Dr Ralf Masur,Dr Andreas Kraus,Jan Märkle, dentistBad Wörishofen, GermanyFrom a clinician’s perspective, a system must first of all function in aflawless manner – this is true for the CAMLOG Implant System. Insurgical and prosthetic handling, it is simple, time-saving, and reliable. The catchphrase “from the practice, for the practice“ is fullyjustified. The CAMLOG Implant System allows the treatment teamto keep all surgical and prosthetic options open to achieve goodhard- and soft-tissue esthetics.Dr Sebastian Schmidinger,Seefeld, Germany At the present time, I mostly use CAMLOG implants because theyoffer an excellent selection of shapes as well as optimal inner workings and very simple abutment procedures. Handling is very userfriendly with the Tube-in-Tube connection, the abutments can beinserted without direct view and without X-ray control since lockingin the final position is clearly detectable. Gerhard Stachulla, MDTAugsburg-Mühlhausen, Germany Particularly with respect to connection geometry, the CAMLOG Tube-in-Tube connection is both a very precise and also a verysimple abutment-implant connection to handle. Design and achoice of abutment options are important criteria, which contributesubstantially to the prosthetic success of a project. In the CAMLOG Implant System, we find a range of different abutments for almostevery restoration situation.
