ThankYou!Leadership Letter:Last Thursday was similar to any other day at CAN: 12 children were brought to the Justice Center as part of a childabuse investigation. Of these 12 children, CAN’s child specialists conducted forensic interviews with ten. Three receivedmedical evaluations from the on-site team of child abusepediatricians from OU. Two of the families participated inmental health consultations with child specialists. Monthafter month, the number of children coming to the Centercontinues to rise, increasing by 26% in FY 2012 compared toFY 2011.In FY 2013, CAN expects to provide more than 2,300 new children with investigative and crisis intervention services. Eachyear we are challenged to meet yet another increase in thenumber of children and ever-rising demand for services. Thispast year we exceeded the Center’s waiting-area space.Michael A. Rhoads,2012-2013 board presidentOur kids and their families literally standing in the outerlobby of the Center waiting to see a doctor or an interviewer had become an all too familiar and unacceptable scene. We had to make room for them—all of them. To make this possible, CAN implemented aplan to convert two offices into waiting rooms and one office into a consultation room. This plan required CAN’s administrative and development staff to relocate to the gymnasium on campus. CAN continues to make the most of currently available resources to achieve the maximum possibleresults on all fronts. CAN’s early intervention services not only focus on the immediate needs of childrenand families in crisis—stopping the hurt and beginning the healing—they also lay the foundation forfuture hope and healing. This commitment will continue to be at the core of our program. We simply couldn’t do what we do without the support of our generous friends in the Tulsa community. On behalf of the CAN board, I would like to recognize and thank the many donors, volunteers, staff andpartner agency members who, over the past twenty-five years, have provided hope and made a difference in the lives of the tens of thousands of kids who have come to CAN for help.Sincerely,Mike Rhoads“Thrift Avenue” ShopA special thank you goes to Children’s Medical Charities Association (CMCA) for providing funding for exam tablepaper rolls for the adolescent exam room. The paper, with its “Stars of Hope” design, is much more teen-friendly thanthe teddy bear design that used to cover the exam table, and provides a nice finishing touch to our recently furnishedand equipped exam room for older kids. The members of the CMCA love operating their upscale thrift store and invite you to stop by their shop sometime soon. The thrift shop is CMCA’s only fund raiser, and the proceeds are used to provide grants to deserving organizations likeCAN. We are so grateful for their generous support of the Tulsa community.Accent Real Estate Inc.ACT Community of TulsaThe Judith & Jean PapeAdams CharitableFoundationSally S. If you’re like most people, you’ve probably entered 2013 with a burst of anticipationand motivation to make new changes and positive choices. This is a great time to look to the past and plan for the future, butplanning takes time, effort, and sometimes a little expertise, especially when it comes to developing your estate. If you alreadyhave an estate plan in place, and it has been more than several years, this may be a good time to have it reviewed. Think of it as a“second opinion”.Your estate plan becomes a living resolution that will remain for your life and for generations that follow.
