He has been involved with Special Olympics Georgia for over6 years. After graduating high school, Angel took on a full-time job tohelp provide for his family. Since then, he has been multi-tasking,splitting his time between work and competing with SpecialOlympics Georgia. Angel is a selfless and humble young man whois always looking out for others. His attitude and determinationhelped to lead Team Georgia to the Gold at USA Games.Congratulations, Angel, on being this month's Athlete of the Month!Mother and Daughter Prepare For 2018 Masters Bowling Tournament

Special Olympics Georgia Gwinnett Masters Special Teams willbe very well represented at the 2018 State Masters BowlingTournament. W ith 57 athletes, coaches and Unified Partners,two will be attending not only as a coach and an athlete, butas a family.Shelby Snelgrove and Suzanne Snelgrove are looking forwardto the 2018 Masters Bowling Tournament. Not only does thisgive Shelby a chance to compete alongside friends andteammates, but it allows her and Suzanne time togetheroutside of Dacula, where the family resides.Shelby started competing at State Games as a Special Olympics Georgia athlete in 2012 at theState Summer Games. Competing in swimming, she also added the State Indoor Winter Games toher resume competing in bowling. It wasn't until 2016, when the now 24 year old was eligible totake her bowling talents down to Warner Robins, that she was able to train for Masters Bowling.Shelby has also competed in bocce at the State Fall Games.This will be the first year for the family to be alongside each other at the tournament. TheSnelgroves are excited to represent Special Olympics Georgia Gwinnett Masters Special Teamsand try to bring the gold back to North Georgia.The SOGA CommunityOur Volunteer of the Month:Teresa YoungT e re sa Y o u n g was the Head Coach for the 2018 USA GamesBasketball Team. She really related to the team, consisting of ninemales and one female, keeping them on point with their basketballskills, game-winning strategy and team sportsmanship. Teresa'scoaching style is firm but gentle, with the athletes improvementand competitive edge in the forefront of her mind. The first halfof 2018 has been very eventful and successful for SpecialOlympics Georgia athletes and everyone involved withSpecial Olympics Georgia. A few highlights:There are currently 206 accredited SpecialOlympics Georgia programs across the state.5,795 athletes, unified partners, and coaches participated in State Indoor W inter Gamesand State Summer Games. 3,521 amazing volunteers assisted with these Games.Special Olympics Georgia held a 3 day Youth Forum in June at Emory University. 42 youthvolunteers and SOGA athletes ages 13-18 attended alongside 10 SOGA team membersand volunteers. The Forum focused on leadership skills training, provided the youthopportunities to implement these skills in a group setting, and educated the youth on howto become involved with SOGA as an advocate in their school/community, coach, unified

partner, and fundraiser.Special Olympics Georgia sent a delegation of 42 athletes, partners, and coaches to theSpecial Olympics 2018 USA Games in Seattle June 30 – July 6. Team Georgia consisted ofa Traditional Basketball Team from Hall County that brought home a gold medal, a UnifiedVolleyball Team from Gwinnett County that brought home a 4 th place ribbon, a UnifiedSoccer Team from Special K’s that brought home a bronze medal, and a Unified Golf Teamfrom Douglas County that brought home a bronze medal.Coca-Cola had three Special Olympics athletes working with them to support the 2018USA Games, two of which are Special Olympics Georgia athletes.
