The Coordinatorcan be reached at the above address and telephonenumber.History of Cuyahoga CommunityCollege, the Campuses andCorporate College On September 23, 1963, the largest first day enrollmentfor a community college in the nation’s history took placeat Tri-C ‘s first home, the 19th century Brownell Schoolbuilding in downtown Cleveland, which was leased fromthe Cleveland Board of Education. The initial enrollmentwas just over 3,000 students. Today, Tri-C serves morethan 55,000 credit and non-credit students each year.12Now one of the largest colleges in Ohio and the largest inGreater Cleveland, Tri-C has expanded to four moderncampuses in downtown Cleveland, Parma, HighlandHills and Westlake, as well as two Corporate College sites in Westlake and Warrensville Heights. Otherfacilities include the District Administrative Services inCleveland and the Unified Technologies Center (UTC)adjacent to the Metropolitan Campus. The UTC is one ofthe largest technology training facilities in the country.Eastern CampusFounded in 1971, the Eastern Campus in HighlandHills has grown to encompass four buildings. In addition tostate-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories, the campuscelebrates a newly opened Natatorium and Fitness Centerwhich features a six-lane swimming pool, diving area,vortex pool, and premier fitness center and weight room.The new space also provides learning spaces for studentsenrolled in the Tri-C Sport and Exercise Studies programand other physical education classes. Students, faculty, andcommunity members can also make use of this pool andfitness center, as well as the full-service library, 600-seatperforming arts center, art gallery, massage therapy clinic,music studios, cafeteria, employment and career servicescenter. The Eastern Campus is located in the growing I-271and I-480 corridor. Regional Transit Authority (RTA) busesalso provide public transportation services.Metropolitan CampusThe Metropolitan Campus which opened in 1969, isTri-C ‘s first campus. Located near downtown Clevelandin the St. Vincent Quadrangle, the Metropolitan Campusis easily accessible from Interstates 71, 77 and 90. Classesare offered during the day, evenings, on weekends andthrough distance learning/e-learning.The Metropolitan Campus houses outstanding science,engineering and health career laboratories. Students learnfirst-hand in laboratories similar to those in the workenvironment. Laboratories exist for nursing, dentalhygiene, computer science, office administration, healthinformation management, manufacturing and therecording arts industry.A state-of-the-art center for Health Careers and Nursingprovides hands-on learning. Students learn with the useof a Human Patient Simulator, a computer-drivenmannequin, which mirrors the physical characteristics ofa human and allows students to respond to critical careissues. A simulated hospital care unit with 22 beds allowsstudents to study and test simulated patients.Allied health laboratories also exist on campus for manyother careers in the health care field including dentalhygiene, health information management, surgicaltechnician, emergency medical technician and occupationaland physical therapy.
