KMCA FOUNDATION AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPSThe KMCA Foundation has selected its scholarship recipients for the 2016-2017 school year. Eachrecipient will receive 1,000 towards their studies at their respective school.WILLIAM H. GRAVES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPKandice Wright, Douglass, was selected to receive the William H. Graves Memorialscholarship. She is a 2013 graduate of Douglass High School. She is currentlyattending Fort Hays State University with a major in Business Management. Shecarries a 3.42 grade point average. She is involved in Delta Zeta Sorority, FHSUCross Country, Celebration Church and Youth Group.KMCA FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPKye Wright, Douglass, was selected to receive the KMCA Foundation Scholarship.Kye graduated from Douglass High School in 2016 with a cumulative grade pointaverage of 3.614. Kye has been a nominee for the People to People AmbassadorProgram, National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Sciences award ofExcellence, Strength, Speed, and Agility “How Good You Wanna Be?” Award plusmore. Noah graduated from Ell-Saline High School in 2016 where he carrieda 4.0 grade point average. Noah plans to attend Kansas State University to studybusiness management. Noah has received numerous honors and awards and isinvolved with many extracurricular activities including Business Professionals ofAmerica, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Big Brothers Big Sisters plus more.KANSAS MOTOR CARRIERS SERVICES SCHOLARSHIPCody Clarke, Lyons, was selected to receive the Kansas Motor Carriers ServicesScholarship. Cody graduated from Lyons High School in 2016 with a cumulativegrade point average of 3.74. Cody plans to attend Fort Hays State University tostudy finance. Cody has been active in football, wrestling, track, golf, band, studentcouncil and more. He has been co-captain of the football team, had Tri-sporthonors and was a home coming candidate his junior and senior year.The KMCA Foundation is proud to award each of these deserving individuals 1,000 scholarships to further academic endeavors. The KMCA Foundation is a non-profit educational,public relations, research and community service organization created by theKansas Motor Carriers Association to promote the transportation industry to thepeople of Kansas.Scholarship recipients were selected on the basis of their academic achievement, communityinvolvement and financial need. The KMCA Foundation provides financial assistance for college andtrade school students. Scholarships may be used to meet expenses such as tuition, books and housing.Scholarship applications must be high school graduates or seniors. They must also be attending schoolfull-time, 12 hours per semester. Applicants including previous KMCA Foundation Scholarship recipientsmay apply each qualifying year.

Visitation Saturday,June 18, 2016, 2 p.m. until service at 3 pm at First UnitedMethodist Church, Augusta. A private graveside service willbe held at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta at a later date. Jimwas born in Winfield, Kansas on August 30, 1949, to the lateDarlene J. (McAlister) and Wilmer R. Stephenson. He wasa self-employed truck driver and member of the Ark ValleyGun Club and Kansas Motor Carrier Assc. Jim enjoyed BBQsmoking, shooting and especially his grandkids. On December25, 1990 he married Jackie (Taylor) Burris Stephensonin El Dorado and she survives him. ATA ANNOUNCES CHRIS SPEAR TO BEFEDERATION’S NINTH PRESIDENTArlington, Va. – Today, American Trucking Associations announced that former ATA senior vice presidentof legislative affairs, Chris Spear, will serve as the federation’s next president and chief executive officereffective July 9. He succeeds Bill Graves, who is retiring after more than 13 years with ATA.Spear is currently vice president of government affairs at Hyundai Motor Company and has a longcareer on Capitol Hill, in federal agencies, as well as in the private sector. Previously, Spear successfullyled ATA’s efforts on the Hill and was instrumental in developing and advancing the association’s strategicadvocacy agenda, which resulted in public policy that advanced ATA’s pro-trucking, pro-safety and proefficiency agenda.“Chris’ enthusiasm for the trucking industry and the mission of ATA – to effectively advocate andcommunicate efforts that improve safety and profitability for our members – is second to none,” saidATA Chairman Pat Thomas, senior vice president of state government affairs at UPS. “We had manyexcellent candidates for the position, but Spear is the right fit for the organization. We are extremelypleased that he will be joining us.”Spear, recognized as a passionate advocate, effective communicator and relationship builder, hasa wealth of political experience in Washington and in the business arena. Spear was vice presidentof global government relations at Honeywell International, and he held Executive Branch positionsincluding Assistant Secretary of Labor.
