2Centre requirementsApprovalCentres already offering City & Guilds qualificationsExisting centres who wish to offer this qualification must use thestandard Qualification Approval Process.Centres NOT already offering City & Guilds qualificationsTo offer this qualification, new centres will need to gain both centre andqualification approval. Please refer to the Centre Manual - SupportingCustomer Excellence for further information.Centre staff should familiarise themselves with the structure, content andassessment requirements of the qualification before designing a courseprogramme.Resource requirementsPhysical resourcesCentres and candidates must be able to accesses Social Media or providean internal equivalent of Social Media, for example Virtual LearningEnvironment (VLE), Grouply, Ning. Centres must be able to meet therequirements of the unit and assessment when using internal or externalSocial Media.Centre staffingStaff delivering this qualification must be able to demonstrate that theymeet the following occupational expertise requirements. They should: be occupationally competent to make assessment judgements aboutthe broad use of Social Media and business-related use of socialnetworking tools to the level and scope of individual candidateperformance at work or in Realistic Working Environments (RWE); andoccupationally competent to make assessment judgements about thequality of assessment and the assessment process be occupationally knowledgeable in the area(s) for which they aredelivering training. Assessors and Internal Quality AssurerAssessor/Internal Quality Assurer TAQA qualifications are valued asqualifications for centre staff, but they are not currently a requirement forthe qualification.If staff do not have Assessor/Internal Quality Assurer TAQA qualificationsthey must be able to show occupational competence, through mappingtheir competences and knowledge against the relevant NOS and theassessor and verifier requirements.Continuing professional development (CPD)Centres must support their staff to ensure that they have currentknowledge of the occupational area, that delivery, mentoring, training,assessment and verification is in line with best practice, and that it takesaccount of any national or legislative developments.Candidate entry requirementsThere are no formal entry requirements for learners undertaking thisqualification. However, centres must ensure that learners have thepotential and opportunity to gain the qualification successfully.As part of the assessment for this qualification, learners must have accessto a work or realistic work environment (RWE).Realistic work environmentsWhere the learner is subjected to a work environment and is producingperformance evidence subject to all of the following conditions: time pressures work problems interruptions accountabilities office environment tools to do the job eg a candidate in a model or virtual officeQualifications Consultants will need to approve RWEs on an individualbasis before any assessment can begin. Authenticity is essential andapproval needs to be endorsed on an annual basis by the QualificationsConsultant.SimulationIf a unit or part of a unit at any level is simulated, it must be undertaken ina RWE.The overarching principle to be applied to units identified as suitable forsimulation is that it should only be undertaken in a minority of caseswhere: there is a high risk to the security and safety of the learner,individuals, key people in their lives and others there would otherwise be a breach of confidentiality or privacy.City & Guilds Level 3 in Social Media for Business (7513-03/13)23

Age restrictions applyCity & Guilds cannot accept any registrations for candidates under 16 asthis qualification is not approved for under 16s.Legal restrictions apply to candidates under the age of 18 workingunsupervised with children. 3 Delivering the qualificationInitial assessment and inductionAn initial assessment of each candidate should be made before the startof their programme to identify: if the candidate has any specific training needs, support and guidance they may need when working towards theirqualification. any units they have already completed, or credit they haveaccumulated which is relevant to the qualification. the appropriate type and level of qualification.We recommend that centres provide an induction programme so thecandidate fully understands the requirements of the qualification, theirresponsibilities as a candidate, and the responsibilities of the centre.
