PHLEBOTOMY TECHNICIAN TRAININGStudents completing the Phlebotomy Technician Training Program (NA 120/NA 123)will attain through lecture, demonstration, and clinical experience, all the necessary skillsfor entry-level placement as a phlebotomist. Proficiency will be demonstrated in allroutine blood drawing techniques, patient approach, patient identification andprofessionalism. After successful completion of NA 120, the student will continue in thePhlebotomy Practicum (NA 123). NA 123 provides clinical experience, enhances theclassroom component and enables the students to gain confidence in seeking employmentas a phlebotomist in hospitals, clinics, laboratories, and/or doctor’s offices. A minimumof 100 successful, unaided venipunctures and 120 hours are required in the clinical area.Students will be supervised by a hospital preceptor in the clinical area.This program is offered to high school graduates (or GED completers) interested inentering the health care field and working in a health care facility. Dates/times/location are arranged bythe instructor. Due to clinical site availability, students may be scheduled into thefollowing semester. The 3 weeks of clinical are assigned within the designated datesfor NA 123.PRE-REQUISITES:HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR GED and:*COMPASS placement into ENG 021 and ENG 099 or ENG 096, OR placementinto the EAP course sequence ENG 078 and ENG 088*Effective 9/1/16, the COMPASS placement test is no longer available. Students cantake the Accuplacer test for reading and writing placement. Students need to placeinto the ENG courses listed above. COMPASS and Accuplacer scores are valid for48 months.OR“C” or better in one of the following: ENG 020 and ENG 098, or the EAP coursesequence ENG 077 and ENG 087
