San Antonio AreaAutism Resource GuideSecond EditionSeptember 20151

This Resource Guide began as a joint project between the Autism Society of Greater Austin(now the Autism Society of Central Texas) and the Austin Area Task Force of the TexasCouncil on Autism and Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD). The charge of the TaskForce is to regularly provide feedback to the Texas Council regarding needs of individualswith autism and PDD in the Austin area and recommendations for their state plan. After thetwo groups compiled the first edition of the guide in 2008, the Autism Society took over themaintenance and distribution of the document. The Autism Society of Central Texas is an affiliate of the Autism Society of America. TheAutism Society has straightforward mission: to improve the lives of all affected by autism. InCentral Texas, the Autism Society strives to do this by advocating for the education andtraining of parents and professionals involved in educating and caring for persons withautism; helping develop a better understanding of the challenges of persons with autism andtheir families by serving as a clearinghouse for information about autism; and, mostimportantly, providing parents with pertinent and current information so they may be betteradvocates for their sons and daughters with autism. Please note that reference in this manual to any treatment or therapy option or to anyprogram, service or treatment provider is not an endorsement of those treatments, therapyoptions, programs, services or providers by the Autism Society or the Task Force.
