GENERAL INFORMATIONPurpose of the CatalogThis catalog is the official bulletin of Texas A&M University-San Antonio for the 201-2018 academic year, inwhich are published the record of the year closing, the announcements for the coming year and the officialadministrative procedures which will be in effect during the coming year. Fees and administrative procedures(except standards and requirements for degrees) are, however, subject to change. This catalog may be viewed onlineat http://www.tamusa.edu under the “Academics” tab.The courses of instruction announced herein are those that are available for offering during the sessions of August2017-August 2018. Courses to be offered during any one semester or summer term are posted in JagWire systemprior to registration for a particular semester or term. To meet evolving needs, the University does reserve the rightto make changes in courses and to offer only those for which a sufficient number of students register.The provisions of this catalog do not constitute a contract, express or implied, between any applicant, student,faculty or staff member of Texas A&M University-San Antonio or The Texas A&M University System. HistoryTexas A&M University-San Antonio was created in 2000 to address an educational need in south San Antonio. TheTexas Legislature asked The Texas A&M University System to establish a center that would offer junior- andsenior-level courses in south San Antonio, an area that has been historically underserved in terms of highereducation. The University, then known as Texas A&M University-Kingsville System Center-San Antonio, wasapproved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board in January 2000. On May 23, 2009, Gov. Rick Perrysigned Senate Bill 629 that created Texas A&M University-San Antonio as a stand-alone university. Texas A&MUniversity-San Antonio is now an upper-division university offering bachelor’s and master’s degree programs.Mission of the UniversityTexas A&M University-San Antonio faculty and staff prepare and empower students through innovative andchallenging academic and co-curricular programs that contribute to and enrich the economic and social developmentof the community and region.
