But before that happens, as your orientation coordinator, I wanted toreach out to you prior to your arrival so that you could email or call me if youhave any questions or concerns regarding the orientation process.We understand that the beginning of any new experience is both exciting andscary, and that starting at a new school is a major transition in your life. Wewant to assure you that we are committed to giving all of our new students theBeth ChoiniereAssistant Headmaster for Campus Lifebest possible introduction to campus life here. Our faculty, staff, and studentorientation leaders join forces to provide a comprehensive introduction to St.Johnsbury Academy.When you arrive on campus in August, please report directly to the Campus LifeOffice in Colby Hall. You’ll find a Campus Map for your reference on the insideback cover of this booklet. From there, we will escort you to the Resident LifeOffice, where you will receive your room assignment and your room key, and arepresentative from the Academy will assist you in getting to your room.Once here, you will meet many of our Dorm Council members. These arestudents who are excited to meet you. They are happy to help with your luggage,to help set up your room, to familiarize you with campus, to help you withshopping, etc. This group will also be attending the Orientation Extravaganzawith you. These documents will be kept in a fireproof safein the Admissions Office so that they are available to you when you need them for travel.PassportYour passport is a secure document that you can use whenever you need proof ofQuestions?Contact Jan fication. You will need your passport when taking the TOEFL or SAT examinations.US F1 VisaYour US F1 visa is an official endorsement from the United States that authorizes you toenter, travel in or through, or leave the United States as a student.I-20The completed I-20 form, issued by the St. Johnsbury Academy Admissions Office,will include all the information the US Government needs about your term of study,including your level of study, your field of study, the dates you are expected to begin andcomplete your studies, and your ability to pay for your education. The role of the mentor is tomaintain close contact with each student to help ensure he or she is followingour academic and social expectations, participating effectively in the residentlife program, and setting and achieving appropriate goals. Mentors alsoJohn RobillardDean of Resident Lifeadvocate for their students during challenging times and help celebrate theirsuccesses.Mentors meet with students in the dormitory individually or in small groups topromote the Resident Life curriculum, a defined program that serves to nurturestudents living in a residential setting. For homestay students, the AssistantCoordinator for Student Programs and Homestays serves as a mentor and leadsthese same discussions.Mentors will write letters to parents several times per year to report on studentprogress in the residential program. These reports will provide commentsabout each student as well as a standards-based evaluation of study habits,involvement in the community, and specific aspects of character development.
