This conference at the Hyatt Regency MontereyHotel & Spa offers a rich learning opportunity in a pleasant and relaxingsetting. Our speakers include both recognized experts in pediatrics andspecialists from around the country as well as UCSF Benioff Children’sHospital Oakland.The program will provide pediatricians, family practitioners, nurses,nurse practitioners, and other allied health professionals with the latestinformation on the diagnosis, assessment and treatment of severalemergent conditions in infants, children, and adolescents.Our speakers will discuss the following pediatric topics: Eye trauma,evaluation of abdominal and groin/scrotal pain in children, keyopportunities to improve immigrant health, identification of child sextrafficking, assessment and treatment of common hand and fingerinjuries, assessing the acutely ill child, vicarious trauma and preventionof compassion fatigue, measures to reduce medical errors, questionsfrom parents regarding genetic evaluations, differential diagnosis of thelimping child, and more.The conference format combines concise didactic sessions, casepresentations, question/answer sessions, and breakout sessions.OBJECTIVESThis symposium will enable the practitioner to:» Identify and triage eye injuries;» Assess abdominal and groin pain in children and the need fordiagnostic imaging;» Discuss social determinants of health for immigrant children;» Recognize signs of child sex trafficking and provide support tosurvivors;» Identify non-displaced fractures and non-operative treatment options;» Describe “vicarious trauma” in the context of trauma-informed careand identification of related factors and indicators;» Recognize early signs of shock and the importance of initiating rapidtreatment;» Use “high reliability principles” to reduce common medical errors;» Improve recognition of important facial and body features related tomalformations;» Recognize exome sequencing principles and basic indications forordering this test;» Develop differential diagnoses of the limping child;» Evaluate sports injuries for urgent care vs. outpatient care.A C C R E D I TAT I O N :UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland is accredited bythe Institute of Medical Quality and the California MedicalAssociation to provide continuing medical education forphysicians.
