JOHNSTON COMMUNITY COLLEGERADIOGRAPHYADMISSIONS POLICY – FALL 2022The Associate Degree Radiography program at Johnston Community College is a 2 year programthat runs over 5 semesters. Students are admitted in the fall semester of each year. The AssociateDegree Radiography program has a limited enrollment number and meeting the admissionrequirements does not guarantee admission to the program. Applicants are admitted under provisionof the admission policies of Johnston Community College and the Associate Degree RadiographyProgram as specified in the Johnston Community College Catalog. The guidelines, deadline dates,and admission policies apply to all applicants equally. Applicants are selected on the basis ofacademic records, admissions testing, and the maximum number of seats available as approved bythe JRCERT.Phase I and II are completed by the applicant and must be completed by the specifieddeadline dates. If the deadline date falls on a weekend, all materials and documents are due theFriday before the deadline. Incomplete packets cannot be processed.Phase III is completed by the College and only accepted will complete Phase IV.PHASE I: Admission RequirementsDeadline date: College Acceptance-February 20 by 5:00 pm Current application for admission to the College on file. (If you have not been enrolled withJCC within the last 12 months, you must reapply to the College.) Official transcripts from high school/GED scores and all colleges on file in theAdmissions and Student Engagement Office. If completed ACT or SAT within the last 10 years, scores must be on file in theAdmissions and Student Engagement Office. All foreign transcripts (secondary and post-secondary) m ust be evaluated by a JCCrecognized evaluation company at the student’s expense. For specific details, seeInternational Transcript information in the College catalog. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Scores: (5-year limit on scores). If yougraduated from a high school in the United States TOEFL scores are not required. Forspecific details, see International Student information on the college website or CollegeCatalog. Complete a JCC Admissions Connect Session. Have graduated or will graduate from high school or the equivalent, as recognized by theState of North Carolina, before entering the Associate Degree Radiography Program. Meet course eligibility requirements to take gateway English (ENG 111) and gateway Math(143) without a co-requisite. If an applicant is required to take a co-requisite course alongwith the program level English and/or Math, and is enrolled in that course at the time of theintent to apply deadline, they will be eligible to be considered. The course must be passed

with a “C” or higher to remain eligible for admission. Applicants who do not pass the coursewith a “C” or higher will not be eligible for program admission. Have a cumulative unweighted high school GPA of 2.8 or higher in the last 10 years. Have a cumulative college GPA of 2.0 or higher. Show completion of two (2) of the following science courses:1. high school or college level general biology course or equivalent with a grade of “C”or higherand/or2. high school or college level chemistry course with a grade of “C” or higherand/or3. high school or college level physics course with a grade of “C” or higher** The Anatomy and Physiology courses in the Radiography program of study will notsatisfy this science course requirement (BIO 165/168 and/or BIO 166/BIO169) ** Attend a MANDATORY Virtual Health Science Information Session-available on theRadiography Program webpage. The Radiography Intent to Apply form is providedonline after attendance of the Virtual Health Science Information Session. Applicants are highly encouraged to complete either job shadowing or a North Carolinaapproved Nurse Aide I* course and current listing on the NCNAR for additional pointson the point ranking. Additional points can also be received for completing an approvedcollege level medical terminology course. Job Shadowing: Applicants may complete eight hours (8) (documented) jobshadowing in the summer or early fall prior to applying to the program. Jobshadowing experience for extra points in Radiography is required to becompleted at a hospital or free-standing imaging facility. Nursing Assistant I (CNA)*: Complete a North Carolina state approved Nurse AideI course and currently listing on the NCNA by March 1 of the admitting year withno substantiated findings of resident abuse, resident neglect or misappropriationof resident property in a Nursing Facility. An approved program will haveclassroom, laboratory and clinical components. Challenging the Nurse Aide Iexamination will not meet this requirement.*Points for CNA maybe be substituted for an applicant with a Degree or Diploma in aneligible Allied Health Profession with a current license/certification in that specialty. AlliedHealth Profession Degree or Diplomas with a current license/certification include: Nursing,Respiratory Therapist, Physical Therapist, Sonography, Paramedic, A.A.S., NuclearMedicine, A.A.S Surgical Technologist, LPN, and Certified CMA. Additional healthcareprofessions with direct patient care will be evaluated on an individual basis.PHASE II: Program Application and Health Occupations TestDeadline Date: Program Application and TEAS testing-March 1st 5:00 pm

Applicants are responsible for ensuring all required materials, documents and steps in Phase I havebeen completed. If the deadline date falls on a week-end all materials are due the Friday before thedeadline. Incomplete application packets will not be processed. Application Packet (submitted to the Health Science Navigator via email atjcchealthprograms@johnstoncc.eduo Radiography program specific application.The following must also be included with the program application to obtain points on the point ranking,but not required for program application:o Job Shadowing Verification Documentation signed by the clinical facility.ORo CNA CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION or a transcript showing completion of anapproved program and a copy of the CNA listing on the NCNAR.ORo Transcript of Degree or Diploma for an *eligible Allied Health Profession and copy ofcurrent license/certification. Complete the ATI Test of Essential Academic Skills (ATI TEAS) once you havereceived the TEAS test ticket and scheduled your test. The TEAS TESTING TICKETwill be issued via e-mail upon receipt of the application packet. The TEAS TESTINGTICKET allows you to view and schedule a testing date.o The testing fee is paid at the Cashiers Office in the Wilson Bldg.o Applicants are allowed to test twice per academic year (August to March of thefollowing year) with a thirty (30) day interval between all testing dates by the deadlinedate of February 28 of admitting year.o Applicants must demonstrate an academic preparedness level of exemplary, advanced,or proficient to be considered for admission to the Radiography program.o Testing is offered at JCC however, the College does accept transfer scores fromATI.o TEAS scores are valid for two years.o Visit the Academic Enrichment Center for information on TEAS TESTING. Studymaterialsmay ting.com.PHASE III: Ranking and Notification of Admission Status All applicants who have met all admission requirements will be ranked according to thehighest to the lowest points. The number of applicants accepted to the program dependsupon availability of seats. In the case where two or more applicants have the sameat

number of points, ATI TEAS scores will determine point ranking. Points are awarded for courses completed by the application deadline date. Courses thathave been completed by the application deadline date with a grade of A, B, or C will beused in the point ranking. Points are awarded for MAT 143, BIO 168, BIO 169, ENG111, ENG 112, PHI 240, PSY 150, and/or a college level medical terminology course. Notifications will be sent to applicants in late April. Applicants may be placed on an alternate list or not accepted at this time. Thealternate list is for the current admittance year. All list and program specificmaterials are destroyed after fall classes begin. Applicants not accepted at this timemay continue with college course work or schedule an appointment with an advisorto discuss other educational opportunities. If admitted, your program will be changed by the Admissions and Student EngagementOffice. If a student changes programs after accepting a seat in radiography, the student isresponsible for changing their program of study code with the Admissions and StudentEngagement Office. Applicants not accepted and desiring to be considered for next year must complete theinformation session, submit program specific application, submit evidence ofadditional points and may elect to retake the ATI TEST of Essential Academic Skills(ATI TEAS).PHASE IV - AcceptanceThe student accepted to the Associate Degree Radiography Program must: Return acceptance to the Student Navigator within five (5) days of the date on theletter. Attend a mandatory program orientation on the designated date in June. Show documentation of physical and emotional health by the student’s primary careprovider. Show evidence of current Healthcare Provider CPR certification (infant, child, andadult) through the American Heart Association. Show evidence of Health Insurance coverage and maintain such coverage whileenrolled in the radiography program. Submit to criminal background checks and initial and random drug screenings asdirected by affiliating clinical agencies. Criminal background checks and drugscreenings must be completed through the College’s designated service provider. Thestudent will incur the cost of the criminal background checks and drug screenings.Clinical agencies may require criminal background checks and drug screening everysix months while enrolled in the program.

Information obtained from the criminal background checks and drug screenings could jeopardizethe student’s ability to participate in clinical experiences and would result in the inability of thestudent to complete the program.The application for certification examination with the American Registry of RadiologicTechnologists (ARRT) contains questions in regards to the following:1. Has the applicant ever been charged with or convicted of a misdemeanor or felony (includingcourt convictions and military court-martial)?2. Has the applicant ever had disciplinary actions from a certification board or regulatory inregards to a professional license, permit, registration or certification?3. Has the applicant ever been suspended, dismissed, or expelled from an educational programthat you attended in order to meet ARRT certification requirements?If the answer is yes to any of these questions, the ARRT may deny an application for certificationbased on these questions. If a student has question of their eligibility for certification, a preapplication process is available by the ARRT.Deferred Action of Childhood Arrivals (DACA)NOTE: Neither federal law nor North Carolina law permits undocumented individuals or those withDACA (deferred action for childhood arrivals) classification to receive professional licenses. See 8U.S.C. § 1621(a) and (c)(1)(A). This does not prevent a DACA student from enrolling in a HealthScience program but will prohibit the student from receiving a professional license.In addition, State Board of Community College Code 1D-SBCC 400.2 Students lawfully present inthe United States shall have priority over any undocumented immigrant in any class or program ofstudy when capacity limitations exist.The College reserves the right to change any restrictions or program requirements at any time. Every effort ismade to provide a one-year notice however, changes or revisions that occur as the result of accreditation orapproval body standards and criteria may be implemented with limited notice.Rev. 6/2021
