The Applicant Guide to Supervised Practice is the most up-to-date reference available detailing DieteticInternships, Coordinated Programs in Dietetics, Individualized Supervised Practice Pathways (ISPPs), andFuture Education Model Graduate Programs (FEMGPs). The majority of accredited programs (281)participate in the Applicant Guide; however, additional programs can be found at the end of the Table ofContents and the links below.Dietetic Internships x?id 6442485424To apply to a DI, individuals must complete at least a bachelor's degree and ACEND-accreditedcoursework requirements (Didactic Program in Dietetics). Currently all DIs must provide at least 1200hours of supervised practice. This is usually completed in 8-24 months depending on the availability of apart-time schedule or requirement of graduate credit. Individuals completing the program, who areverified by the program director, are eligible to take the CDR Registered Dietitian Nutritionistcredentialing examination.Appointments to DIs are awarded on a competitive basis and most use a national computer matchingprocess. Some programs not participating in computer matching accept applications only fromindividuals employed by the sponsoring organization. Prospective applicants should review programwebsites for the most up-to-date information, including application deadline dates. The Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics’ (ACEND)policies for ISPPs allow 1) graduates who did not match to a dietetic internship, but who possess a DPDverification statement, 2) individuals holding a doctoral degree without a DPD verification statement toapply for an ISPP; however, eligibility requirements and options may vary by program. One can seewhich Dietetic Internships, Coordinated, or Didactic programs currently offer ISPPs by visiting the linkabove. Doctoral degree holders without a DPD verification statement must attend an ISPP that isapproved to offer a track for individuals with a doctoral degree. Applicants interested in applying to anISPP should research the eligibility requirements of the programs to which they intend to apply,including whether one is required to locate one’s own preceptors. Individuals with work experienceshould also inquire whether the program grants credit for specific competency requirements through anassessment of prior learning.
Future Education Model Graduate Programs mAll FEMGPs are offered at the graduate level and provide the required nutrition and dieteticscoursework and supervised experiential learning to meet ACEND’s competency requirements to beeligible to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).
