Office/Concerned Institution, during 3rd/4th year semester breaks to provide them withpractical on-job training and confidence before employment as professionals. Internship isan essential requirement for all NUST degree programmes and it is reflected on thetranscript issued to graduates on completion of degree.4.Community Service Course. Each student is required to undergo a 2 Credit Hours(CHs) Community Service course as part of the standard curriculum. The students who donot qualify the course are usually at a disadvantage during job placements and practical life.5.Examinations & Other Semester Requirements. The following may be scheduledduring a semester of studies for the purpose of grading:a.Minor Test (Quiz). A number of unannounced/announced quiz tests areconducted frequently in each course at irregular intervals, (normally 2-3 percredit hour) throughout the semester.b.Major Test(1)Mid Semester Examination/One Hour Test (OHT). Mid SemesterExam is a 2-3 hours test conducted at mid semester or a number ofOHTs (one hour duration), conducted (normally one per credit hour)in each course at regular intervals with due notice of at least twodays.(2)End Semester Examination (ESE). The last comprehensiveexamination of approximately three hours duration is given in eachcourse on its completion.c.Class Assignment. A task relevant to a course of study assigned by concernedfaculty to substantiate the course contents. The assignment may or may notbe graded.d.Practical/Lab Test. These tests include all such examinations/ evaluations toascertain the level of competency of practical application of knowledgeacquired.e.Project. Project is a research work aimed at testing the ability of a student totranslate the theoretical knowledge acquired during a course of study intopractical use. Projects are usually assigned as part of course-work toindividual or group of students and each student is required to present theproject work.f.Attendance. 75% attendance is must for a student to be allowed to appear inthe End Semester Examination of a subject. 7.Question Paper. All question papers are set by respective faculty and dulyscrutinized, approved, and conducted in accordance with the university policy. As per thespirit of semester system, there shall be no choice in attempting the questions. It shall alsobe ensured that the Question Papers are balanced with respect to the examination policyand have been prepared to cover the essentials of the whole syllabus completed by thefaculty.8.Use of Reference Material during Test/Examination. Prior to quiz, OHT andmid/end-semester examinations, the concerned faculty/invigilator may announce suchbooks, notes or other material which can be referred to by the student during thetest/examination. Student should not be in possession of any other book, notes, papers ormaterial etc.9.Examination Schedule. The Deputy Controller of Examinations of the respectiveinstitution publishes the examination schedule at least two weeks prior to thecommencement of the End Semester Examination.10.Academic Calendar. Director Academics prepares the academic calendar of theUniversity based on the details provided by each institution and other directorates of MainOffice NUST at least two months before the commencement of academic year, i.e., FallSemester.11.Conduct of End Semester Examination. Dean approves the detailing ofofficers/faculty as superintendent/deputy superintendent for the conduct of End SemesterExamination. These officers/faculty shall ensure the following, namely:a.Students are seated in the examination room according to the seating planprepared by the Examination Branch.b.All answer books used in the examination are initialed by the invigilator. Noother answer books are to be used.c.Answer books are issued to the invigilators five minutes before thecommencement of the examination and retrieved at the end of theexamination.d.Absentee report, if any, is prepared and forwarded to the ExaminationBranch at the end of each examination.12.Invigilation Duties. Invigilators are detailed by the Deputy Controller ofExaminations of the institution after the approval of Dean. They report to thesuperintendent/deputy superintendent thirty minutes before the commencement ofexamination and shall ensure:a.Students are seated according to their seating plan.b.Students are warned against the use of unfair means and have been advisedto surrender notes, papers, cell phones, iPads, etc or other unauthorizedmaterial before the commencement of the examination.c.No student is allowed to join the examination thirty minutes after itscommencement.NUST Undergraduate Handbook 202012

d.No student is allowed to leave the examination room within one hour ofcommencement of examination. The visits to wash rooms shall be carefullycontrolled.e.The question papers and answer books of a student detected using unfairmeans or assisting another candidate, is taken away and the matter reportedto the superintendent/deputy superintendent of examination.
